And this is why only fools categorize guys like Joshua at this career stage. Truth be told he could potentially come back from this as well before anyone totally writes him off. Wlad and Lewis both came back from early career losses.
It’s not really that shocking, since despite his talent, which Joshua has a lot of he’s still extremely green with only 22 fights under his belt. As long as Joshua stays a student of the sport and is willing to fix his mistakes he can become a champion again.
This. I don’t like comparing past fighters with active fighters for this reason, but especially fighters with less than 25 fights under their belt. People tend to underestimate the importance of ring activity and fights under your belt. I wasn’t a fan of Joshua being inactive for 9 months. Hearn needs Joshua fighting every 4 months to keep him sharp and so he can keep learning. He’s too green to be fighting once a year.
I hope not. I hope AJ learns and improves from this setback. If you write off a fighter after a first defeat, you really are no fan of 'classic' boxing.
This gentlemen, is why we don't start picking active fighters over all time greats. Don't say I didn't warn you!
Let's see...We've heard on this site that Joshua beats Dempsey...Louis...Marciano...Ali...Tyson,.....is that all?....Yeah,....right!!! Too funny!!!
I feel a bit sorry for Andy Ruiz to be honest. He is the new unified heavyweight champion, so why aren't we talking about him!
I wrote him off after his fight against Parker who to me is everything a champion should be a kind man giving his all AJ is arrogant and paid for it he even had the ref in his pocket and a long count he's a paper chinny champion who will be on all fours looking to redeem himself hopefully he'll give Ruiz the rematch cuddle to victory in his homeland Klit style and lose to Wilder after all this atrocious ducking done by both parties. Bruno junior is a cash cow and if he loses the rematch Eddie will be off his tit once and for all maybe he should try being Mr Olympia
The truth. Ruiz fought a better fight. Took ring centre and the anxiety of not being in total command exhausted AJ. Both showed heart getting off the floor but Ruiz showed more poise, held it together. Because he was not in shape Ruiz had to conserve himself very well. He took a rounds off to recover from the exertions of hurting Joshua. Importantly Ruiz worked out Joshua could be tagged when ever he opened up. He knew when to strike and AJ didn’t. He never worked out he was getting caught opening up.
Shavers Wins KO1 Norton Wins KO6 Quarry Wins in mid Rounds by KO Patterson Wins by KO early Chuvalo by late TKO I did not see much of Oscar except the ali and frazier fight but i think Oscar has good chances.
I dont think Andy was super fast or powerful, the key was fighting in his range and puching in bunches- his heart and pressure (always underestimated in boxing) made a difference -Andy is lucky iof he is 6' and his reach can not be more than 70 but he fought in his range and threw punches
NO they weren't, otherwise they would have been among the numbers. they were one off, rarities, oddities and they enjoyed a bit of interest when they appeared among the Top, few and short lived as they were. the S-HW of today didn't really become common place until the likes of Tucker and Carl Williams and Too Tall and a few others. they only became the Status Quo towards the end of Tyson's reign and along with LL and Co. Now it IS the Land of the Giants - S-HW, NOT HWs.
