That footage of AJ looking sharp...
I think its a LOT more important than we realise you know and not for the obvious reasons...

I've seen a lot of *very* good predictions and reviews about tje fight. Very well rounded and solid arguments both ways. However...the better ones I have seen that favour Klitschko have one thing in common

They all make their assessments based on AJs style.

And that style they describe is one which is very lineal
Few hooks and side to side movement on the way in...

So on that proviso they believe that Wlad can read that very well and will whether an early storm, gain confidence in the middle rounds, scored well late and coast to a points win.

However...what that video shows is that - and credit to him - McCracken is very aware of this blueprint

And we see a lot of emphasis on the move left and right and the pivot left and right.

And you will notice on the pads Robert holding out a long lead and teaching anthony to slip outside and counter with the hook, then pivot away after the exchange rather than go backwards (knowimg that heading straight backwards could mean taking a counter left hook that Wlad likes)

When wlad grabs he likes to grab straight and then press his shoulder into the chest of the opponent and lean

So the pivot would mean that if AJ grabs he has the dominant body position and would be able to lean on the older creakier WK

I think you are reading too much into this. Padwork is useless for an actual fight. I would be more interested if he is actually doing these things in his sparring. Anyone can whack away at some pads and do pre-determined movements.

AJ might look very different with a long (and strong) jab constantly in his face....

    Padwork means nothing.

AJ isn't beating Wlad on some "blueprint". If AJ wins it's because of his speed, accuracy and power and catching an old Wlad with serious punches. It won't be due to some puzzling movement on his way in. Wlad has seen it all before. AJ is no Fury. He's going to come at Wlad and whatever nuances and refinements he's added won't be enough to befuddle or surprise Wlad. The only thing that will work is beating Wlad to the punch based on youthful speed. AJ will try to use the uppercut against the Wlad grab, which may or may not work.

I agree. Joshua needs to be first to take away Wlad's jab and grab style, if he can't get off first he'll find himself out boxed and smothered when he tries to counter.

And yes it looks like he's trying to bring that uppercut into play when Wlad gets close enough to clinch, which once again requires him to be first to the punch before Wlad can fully close the range and clinch him. How much success he has with the uppercut will come down to firstly if he can get off first or secondly if he can't get off first can he create the space to throw the uppercut on the inside, like Lewis did to Vitali when they fought.

Pads mean nothing? That's complete bollox.

How does any fighter learn and progress? It's on the pads then in sparring. Not just for Wlad but any boxer AJ meets in the future. Obviously pad work will not be an exact replica of the fight, but AJ has precious little experience compared to Wlad and has not been pushed in previous fights. He has to use different shots and different movement if he is to progress, he can't use the same one/two, counter overhand right in every fight.

You learn by hard sparring. Padwork is for show.

Thousands of great fighters never even worked with pads.
It can be beneficial but it's about as non-essential as the floor-to-ceiling ball.

Pad work works with ACTUAL superior fighters who can implement it in an actual fight. They are for show but obviously Joshua is utilizuing significant muscle memory here for a certain style. His footwork is what ppl arent actually looking at,and mimicking a moving target with McCracken himself. Most people think hes a slow plodder with poor defense....lmao...well you will see otherwise that hes not remotley that guy.

Floor to Ceiling ball is just for hand and eye coordination thats not more important than simulating actual combinations on a solid object such as Hb or Pad Work. i rate HB work over mitts bc you need to know what hitting a solid object is like and it increases power and you have a large target to simulate combos on withoput guessing or throwing in set combos from a coach.. Mitts are important for accuracy overall .

Mitts /Heavy Bag/weights/shadow boxing /Jump roping...etc etc...are all on its own not going to win him the fight so i guess he should just stop doing everything all together in his open work outs i guess? :tonguecrazy:

Confused by the phrase 'for show'. Every boxing gym I have been in from young kids right up to adults, all do pad work. If there are no benefits or little to gain then why would so many boxing coaches have pads in there workouts? Cardio is another benefit from pads.

The main thing for me is that AJ punches straight and very fast while judging distance very well. Against WK his speed and power will be a major weapon but against the wide slinging Wilder it'll be the killer difference between the two.

No, DW is dangerous even for the atg Aj. DW is one of the fighters that can beat anyone on any given night and can be beat by few.

Aj is just way too many levels above wlad, Wlad literally doesnt even have a punchers chance. The absolute best that can come is Wlad taking more abuse than ever before, making people claim he so much tougher than we thought

I had to go way back, pre ES wlad to see the dangerous fighter that truly could beat anyone on any given night. how poorly his offense became over the last decade removed any memory of a dangerous wlad. I literally couldn't picture wlad throwing a meaningful true combination, I think due to how terrible a fighter he's been the last few years. I know it's really been 2 fights, just took so long for those 2 fights to take place.

Getting ko'd the 2nd and most importantly the 3rd time completely changed wlad as a fighter, but he still hasn't had a single legit fighter really close to his size to compete against. Sam Peters was a tough C (c level on best nights, very fat JT beat him clearly in fight 1, imho.

The fighter he became with ES was built strictly on out sizing his opponents, there wasn't an LL there to deal with and brothers don't fight (don't fight for $$$) unless they are truly GARBAGE humans. Without his ability to throw fast, hard and accurate combos he belongs no where near a ring with Aj. Ill admit,I've been dogging wlad during this camp, I let wlads horrific immediate past erase all promising images of his younger, hungrier and deadly past.

That guy is no more, I still wholly believe Aj is levels above any wlad but wlad during his prime would be like Dw vs Aj where anything is possible. Still Aj guaranteed t/ko early to mid, 6 max
