Aj what level is he actually at?

If Haye, whether he's coming off a lay-off or not, jumped in the ring with AJ tomorrow and I had to bet on one or the other my money would be going on the man with the sideshow bob haircut.

Now I rate AJ, bags of potential and power + trains like a demon, but he hasn't fought anyone remotely near the level of Haye. So far he's looked the bollocks against the opposition he's been in with, but he's not actually fought "anybody" so we can't properly gauge what level he's at.

Don't get me wrong though, the longer this fight is left the more favourable it is for AJ... so Haye needs to chase that fight for next summer latest.

 

To be fair to Joshua, he took Whyte's punch and fought back.
Frank Bruno was virtually KO'd on his feet by Jumbo Cummings and was fortunate the bell rang that second.

I don't know whether AJ's chin will hold up at all but it wasn't long ago people here were citing Fury's knockdowns against Pajkic and Cunningham as evidence he'll get sparked by Wladimir Klitschko.

 

The difference with Fury though, is that he can be very slippery and evasive when it suits him. Against Cunningham and Pajkic he was clowning and got tagged, but never looked in any real bother, more surprised and off balance than hurt.

I've not seen any sort of defense from AJ, when he was tagged by Whyte his repsonse was very much like Khans was earlier in his career.

 

Yeah, I agree. He certainly has to improve a lot.
I wouldn't be at all surprised if he gets KO'd the first time he steps up.

 

Although Fury was knocked down by USS and Pajkic I didn't see him as badly hurt as Joshua in the Whyte fight or Bruno in the Cummings fight. I think both those fights are/were more prescriptive than the two Fury ones even though they stayed upright via the ropes or were saved by the bell. Whyte should have emptied the tank on Joshua but he wasn't in good shape and allowed him to recover. Molina is a sacrificial lamb but a stronger guy like a Parker/Pulev/Ortiz/Wlad/Povetkin is not going to let the kind of opening Whyte had go by. Joshua in that state would be finished by all these guys.

 

Well, I suppose if I had to bet money on it I'd guess AJ's going to be KO'd once or twice in his career at least, probaby in the next 5 years or less, providing he steps up among proper division contenders.
Lots of fighters get chinned and KO'd, and he certainly seems a fitting candidate.

 

No word of a lie if Cummings had blown on Bruno he would have fell flat on his back, he was completely gone. How he managed to recover I'll never know, after seeing clips I used to think he was given smelling salts but now it doesn't look like that to me.

 

I think they threw a lot of water on him and he was a well-conditioned 22-year-old man. The fact that Cummings was such a limited boxer himself allowed Bruno to get back into it in the 2nd round.

 

It was the point when they took is gumshield out when I thought they did it.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I'm sure smelling salts were used on Foreman against Lyle.
