Both champions get wrote off en mass on here so it got me thinking what would one need to do to go down as an ATG?

Wilder could win one fight against AJ and be undisputed world champion! Would that be enough to put him in the HOF?

AJ once he dispatches of Parker will be one fight away from singlehandedly cleaning up the division! His would be more impressive than Wilder’s reign because he’s had to go after each belt one by one. So would that put him down as an ATG?

Neither at the moment but only Joshua has the potential to be considered at some later date. Wilder has frittered his ATG opportunity away by fighting journeymen for his whole career to date. Joshua has already fought better quality opponents and has enough years left in him to build a strong legacy.

no.. many guys win big fights. HOF is a whole career, and he is far far from that.. But being heavyweight, he gets more attention than most. both guys do. so they get more credit than a lower weight guy would. But Wilder is not HOF or close to it.

Heavyweights fight much longer than lower weight fighters. It wouldn’t be surprising to see Wilder continue at his current level for 3-5 more years. Plenty of time to build an all time great legacy. That’s if the current era presents opponents of that caliber, of course, and he gets those fights.

Wilder has beaten one good contender that was already over the hill and likewise Joshua has beaten a legend that was at least five years past prime. You look at those two fights and they were both lucky to win them. Long way to go for atg status for either. In my view they will be ko'd if they stay in the game. Coming back from a loss and dominating again is what makes an atg - not riding on a bum carousel like Wilder or retiring with a pot of cash after a few ppv bonanzas.

you guys are trying to make guys HOF And great with a few fights. Greatness and hall of fame take years.. a whole career. if it was that easy then we would have 2000 great fighters and all would be seen as great, and that cannot be.

the initial thread is trying to make Wilder great .. If he does this is he great, as though it is that easy to be great. At this point he has not fought anyone. Really a limited career. To be though of with Tyson or Lennox will take years and years. Of tough fights. I think people want him to be great an it cannot be rushed. Some article said Joshua might retire soon. Well then his legacy will not be much either. Fighters have to fight tough fighters and have long careers for HOF or legend status. A few fights where they fight well and have an attitude won't get them a great career.

No it’s far from it! If you read my posts I’m one of wilders biggest detractors!

    I’m simply asking a question...

Would a win over one another propel the other one to ATG status? If not what else would they need to do?

Becoming the number 1 heavyweight in the world, cleaning up the heavyweight division and remaining the number 1 heavyweight in the world whilst beating the best possible opponents for a long period of time would make one an ATG.

have another 10 title defenses against the best fighters and a few more superfights to prove they could compete against the best in the history of heavyweights. The problem is the weight issues are too big and we really don't know how guys of the same weight would fare against each other. seems like the bigger heavyweights dominate now. to the point it is hard to rate a fighters today. or even in the last 20 years when the bigger guys started to dominate with Lennox and the Klitchkos.

True, but not in this time period all the best possible opponents are C or D level fighters. It takes two to both tango and to make ATG match. There is no one on the horizon that gets to Bonecrusher Smith level much less a Liston,Norton, Frazier, Lewis etc. Joshua has a Klit but that was Wlads last fight. True, Wilder has a Nichols name on his resume but that's about it.
