Let me but to bed some of the theories on who potential opponents would be instead by stating some simple rules for those of you who don't know **** about boxing. In a voluntary defence Joshua must fight either: 1. A fellow champion (secondary and interim belts don't count)- so that rules out Ortiz. 2. Someone in the IBF top 15 who is not coming off a loss- so the likes of Briggs, Jennings and Takam don't count.
I notice nobody has mentioned Haye yet.....he is due to announce what he calls a 'big big' fight around next Monday time, and I believe Eddie Hearn said he was using the Mellennium Stadium for AJs next fight? Personally I think Haye is going to fight Browne though for the WBA regular title next. I know Oquendo has the court agreement that he has got to be next , but there are still huge doubts over his fitness. Oquendo comes to a financial agreement with Haye in turn for fighting the winner. It's a no lose for Fres, he gets some cash, more time to get fit, and a more lucrative fight against Haye, most likely. Before Browne failed that test, there was talk of this happening, with talks advanced enough that Oquendos trainer and reps were actually in Hayes gym to discuss it.
Pulev's probably right to pass on this fight right now. Pulev is in a position to be mandatory challenger next year, he's ranked #2 behind Parker in the IBF. He's also ranked #3 by the WBC. He might get a decent payday in an eliminator against someone and also get decent terms in a challenge after that.
I want the Parker fight actually... every other fight that's not the other belt holders, is meh to me.
Apart from punching against slow, stationary targets, who has AJ fought that says he will "demolish" Parker?
I heard Pulev is over-pricing himself, it's a fight he doesn't believe he can win so wants to get paid. Could be Parker fight next, please don't give us AJ v Briggs, no one wants to see that.
theres some fights out there for him thats for sure. but parker i jst dont see happening with him fight dimintrenko. just not realistic. briggs , ortiz, ustinov, j miller, g washington , duhappus, eric molina , david haye
