Just had a quick look at the European rankings there and Olusegun is in there at #17 at Light-Welterweight. Down as a GB fighter as that is obviously the country through where he claims European eligibility.

He's #3 with the WBC, so I guess if Olu Rotimi seems this they'll come on and defend that Ajose doesn't need to go the European route and that the African title is more prestigious etc.....

However I'm sure if he was winning to go to Italy for little money he could very well get a fight with Branco. If he truly is World Class he'd have the ability to either stop Branco or give him a bad enough beating that they couldn't take the fight from him. The WBC move fighters who win/defend the European title very quickly up through their rankings so if Olusegun was to win the European title it would be a quick way of getting him to WBC mandatory.

However I doubt his team would try such a bold move, it's easier to claim everyone is ducking him and then have him fight some journeymen and claim he's World Class.

He is a very talented fighter, but it's been over two years since he beat Nuumbembe and he turns 29 in December. Basically get a ****ing move on with him.

Nah he should give Alex Spitko a rematch. The world needs it.

He is a terrible draw for a fighter of his level and in his last two chances to showcase himself(against Reid and Wright) he has badly disappointed.
So he makes no money, if you make no money in business then nobody wants anything to do with you.

So he's not going to get any good chances at the 'attraction', therefore if he's to get where he wants he'll need to do it as the opponent. Which would mean taking short money or going in on short notice. Something his team don't seem prepared to do. Hence Maloney has him fighting journeymen on the undercard of his cards in Leisure centres.

They're going to need to take chances with him, no risk= no reward.

Cheers BigEars.;) It was a slightly rhetorical question, but thanks for the answer. As you say, he needs to either take the short of end of purses or fight a damn site more often against decent opponents and force himself forward through eliminating the opposistion. He seems unwilling to do either and his career is just going nowhere fast.

I think Witter is the mando for Branco.

I sure as hell hope that Big Mick wins the purse bid because otherwise Junior's career will be over, well and truly.

No man the guy is not avoided he is just not sellable. He is in the same vein as Witter only Witter had a bit of power that could make him remotely watchable.

As stated before the last two opponents he has fought shouldnt have been in the same arena with him, if he is as good as he says he is, yet he was awful to watch and in the Reid fight he was clowning but making himself look like a dick as he wasnt even looking good.

I think he has found his level, he may win a Euro title but i will go down on paper now saying he will NEVER win a world title.

Yep. I have said for awhile he needs to try his hand stateside on the back of his WBC ranking. Otherwise he will never go nowhere.

he should campiegn in europe thats somethign peopel will catch there eye on and will make him a top class opponant in europe.

thinkg abotu it this way . fighting in the uk can bring in decent money but the domestic scene is weak at this wieght and same on either sides of it. goign abroad and taking on legit fighters...but still journeyman can give him a rep. a good record makes you a fearsome opponant but a good record means that you will rise to the top.

if he just keeps fighting every month and keeps on winning he will get noticed.

european route it open but if he just keeps on winning against anybody he will get a wbc shot

Just thinking about it now I wonder if maybe Maloney should try and get him a voluntary shot at Bradley's title.

Now you may be thinking, geez what a ****** Olusegun brings nothing to attract a fight with Bradley, not money, prestige, title or mandatory position.

Over to fight him for training expenses alone, it sounds stupid but at the moment Olusegun is on a road to nowhere. Even if he were to lose the title shot it could open up opportunities for him in America and there's much more demand for poorly supported African who's a former title challenger, than just poorly supported African.

It would be like when Judah got the rematch with Spinks for the Welterweight Championship of the World because he offered to fight for just $100,000 in Spinks home town.

In the long term it not only gained Judah much more money, but recognition and achievement aswell.

As things stand Olusegun probably wouldn't even make £40,000 for fighting Bradley anyway so it wouldn't be like he's throwing away a huge payday.

Bradley is going to be defending his title against Edner Cherry on the 13th of this month on the Campbell v Guzman undercard. Seeing as I don't think there is a WBC mandatory currently hell have time for another voluntary before hes forced to make his mandatory. If Maloney offered what Bradley's camp would presumely see as a relatively easy defence in California for just training expenses I couldn't see Bradley's team refusing.

I guess I'm going to be ridiculed as crazy for my suggestion but sure we can always watch Olusegun fight journeymen as Witter/Branco/Devon Alexander find themself in the mandatory position for Bradley's title.

    WBC rankings of note:
    Devon Alexander #1
    Junior Witter #2
    Ajose Olusegun #3
    Edner Cherry #6
    Ali Chebah #13
    Giuseppe Lauri #16
    Colin Lynes #22
    David Barnes #28
    Ted Bami #38
    Paul McCloskey #40

Looking at that Giuseppe Lauri looks a nice easy option for someone to move up the rankings.

Barnes and Lynes fight each other in November but Olusegun won't fight either of them because theyre 'ducking him' .

Big Ears son shame on you. You are more knowledgeable than you write on this post deliberately choosing to be ignorant. Ajose Olusegun now qualifies to fight for the European title as his British citizenship has come through by way of naturalisation.

In your list all of the Brits Lynes, Bami, Barnes, Sister Witter et al have consistently refused to fight him. Barnes was in Ali Nuumbembee's corner the day we knocked him out and the answer from their camp has always been thanks but no thanks. You cannot blame the kid after what fellow African southpaw the less gifted Joshua Okine did to him in his hometown of Manchester. I know I was at ringside.

Colin Lynes gave up the British title because he realised we were now eligible. Remember my predictionlast year and please check previous posts that Cynthia Lynes would give up the British title and European when we became eligible and what has happened.

As for Branco well that would not even be competitive. Only the likes of Lynes can make a fight with Branco competitive. We fight everyone in their hometown so that is not a problem at all for us.

We are able, ready and willing to fight anyone. We fight who ever our promoter and BSKYB put in front of us. I told you we are targeting the number 1 ranking in the WBC to get the mandatory title. All the others in your list are jokers only Timothy Bradley and that excellent fighter Devon Alexander are truly worthy opponents and that is what we want.

What do you expect us keep begging these domestic punks to fight us. If you say you are the best then take on all comers.

Barnes versus Lynes yeah that is one to get excited about!

Come on Big Ears son raise your game.

The performance against Reid was an exhibition of a master. Textbook brillant. We won every minute of every round enough said. Against Wright we were not prepared as we had 3 weeks notice and only 1 sparring session with an amateur who could not box more than 4 rounds but we still won in Wright's hometown shutting up the crowd. There is a reason this African and Commonwealth champion is now number 3 in the WBC ratings moving towards a title shot.

We are always taking chances. Hell at times we don't even know who we are preparing to fight.

Lynes would outclass both Barnes and Olusegun

Hell - he easily outpointed Branco but was ripped off by some dodgy judging

Ok Olu not heard anything from you in awhile. You know I can be one of Olesugens biggest fans and biggest critics so I will not pull no punches. Has Ajose got anyone lined up to fight that can show us the best he can be? Wright was a decent opponent and Reid could bang at lightweight but these hardly rate against the top10 fighters in any governing body's ratings and fights against guys like Spitko are not a good build up for a title fight or even a shot at Witter.
