Made me laugh when Jim Watt said he needs to be careful because a 'weak' referee might DQ him. I would have thought the correct term would be a 'strong' referee who is committed to holding up the rules!
Yeah but in reality it's against the rules. If someone starts biting what do you say then 'it's a fight, it happens'. Truth is it shouldn't happen as it's against the rules. He just needs to be more aware in the future, would be a shame to see it cost him the fight.
The word 'cheat' is too strong (though technically correct). The word 'inexperience' would be more appropriate. However, and here is the crux of it, if the trainers don't tell him to cut it out, a decent referee will. He should have been warned at the weekend and it was appalling that he wasn't. He is still incredibly green though. That is why the hype around him needs to calm on both sides. To be a disciplined boxer (which he is going in the right direction to becoming) takes time. In the rush of adrenalin that comes when an opponent hits the floor, coupled with the desire to please an audience, AJ is getting a little too carried away. I will be very surprised if we ever see him do it again after the last fight. If the supposed 'cheating' has been any more widespread than the late punches when an opponent hits the deck, I haven't seen it.
In this most recent instance the opponent was still engaging and still holding - he didn't let go of AJ's leg even when the ref broke them up. Plus the guy was coming in low the entire fight. It's entirely possible on this occasion that Joshua didn't even realise he'd gone down. Still a disturbing pattern of behaviour, though.
Wlad's octopus grab is just as bad, but everyone of you complaining about Joshua no doubt give Wlad a pass.
maybe cheating wasn't the right word, his next opponent maybe looking at this and thinking its a good chance to win via disqualification and make sure he gets a good payday for the rematch. The punches after the round ended were blatant to me. If he keeps doing it he's going to get in trouble imo.
The late shot last night was ridiculous. Completely deliberate. Referee was pathetic. I have more of a problem with the genius sticking his tongue out at part-time fighters who aren't anywhere near his level. And as for saying he wants to "hurt" them... Karma is going to deliver something nice for him sooner or later.
:good AJ seem's very calm and articulate (to a degree) in front of the camera, and can definitely turn the charm on. But you can never polish a turd...
nice guys dont win in this game very often so I like that he seems to have a bit of a nasty streek in the ring even tho he could be a bit more subtle with it
As much as AJ wishes to brush away his past it will always resurface from time to time.Once a street thug-always a street thug.He is not what he seems to be,despite Eddie's accolades.
:good Spot on, can you imagine if the unbelievable happened and Joshua was floored by one of these easy nights and the opponent threw a shot while he was down, does anybody honestly believe it wouldn't be dealt with serverly? there would be a 15 second talking to and then a walk around making a big deal of deducting a point, maybe another 10 seconds, if Joshua was out the game it would definitely be a DQ.
