looking more (former) Froch-like vs Saturday morning? "Speaking to Boxing News, Joshua said: "Rob McCracken's a really good coach, the only thing I'd say is look at Carl Froch's nose. He just didn't teach me defence. And in heavyweight boxing, the level of competition I was facing at that stage of my career, I was getting hit way too much with clean shots." Well that worked out for you
He's defence on Saturday was the worst it's ever been. Listening to Ben Davidson advice to AJ between rounds was shocking. "he leans into his jab, take a step back and throw the uppercut" that's great, how about keep your hands up, try and parry some of those jabs, stop leaving your chin out. If you watch Davidson in the background during the fight he's never shouting at AJ to stop making such terrible mistakes, it was weird, he was just looking for that knockout punch. I don't think his current set up is any better defensively than McCracken, probably worse.
Yeah his hands were so low throughout the fight and just retreating in straight lines. It genuinely was novice like at times. I think he totally underestimated Dubois, maybe put into a false sense of security after the Ngannou KO, and thought he could just blast out Daniel early.
It would’ve always panned out this way. First time in his career he faced a fearless guy willing to just go for it.
Not sure that he underestimated Dubois since from opening bell he looked scared shitless. He knew what he was up against. That’s what had him frozen. Would never have abs never will beat Dubois.
It seemed to me he felt the power of the Dubios jab within the first 10 seconds of the fight, thought to himself ‘no thanks’ and shelled up. Game plan and training out the window. The fight couldn’t have gone much worse for him after that. Or maybe he was beaten before he even got in the ring. He didn’t look right during the ring walk.
People said the same thing in the ringwalk for the first Ruiz fight, care to elaborate? I thought he looked locked in and ready personally
Shane McGuigan was on pundit duty for 5 Live and he called the last exchange perfectly in advance. Said how bad he thought the advice was (before anything transpired) and pointed out what a dangerous punch the uppercut was to throw. Never know how much importance to attach to these things but he seemed a bit too relaxed. Dubois looked hyped, even if it was rehearsed there was a snap to him when he beckoned Warren and co to join him on the final walk in. AJ was ambling, but maybe looking like he wasn't as amped up as he needed to be. Also there was a curious aspect to him arriving so late at the venue. He was stiil supposedly outside of Wembley when Liam Gallagher was performing. If he'd showed up in the ring you could say this was inspired but given his performance it maybe raises the possibility of him already suffering some kind of pre fight collywobbles. Still, shouldn't take anything away from DDD.
People overanalyzed AJ's body language for years. They said he was scared shitless before Wallin and Ngannou too. Maybe it's just how he looks when he's tense.
Yes chinning Ngannou in a boxing ring has been a great example of smoke and mirrors to the general public. Maybe even to AJ.
I think it depended on how Ngannou performed against Fury. Wallin's destruction comparing to how much of a problem he was to Fury was a factor as well. At least for me.
I think to class Wallin troubling fury in terms of boxing ability you have to really dislike Fury, he had 47 stitches won 118-110, 117-111 and 116-112. Ultimately all that fight showed was the difference in fighting character between Fury and AJ one has it one doesn't.
