Dubois is the first guy he's fought since Wlad that he couldn't use size and strength to bully and he didn't have the boxing skills to fall back on. Joshua is very good against shorter fighters that he can just stick on the end of a jab, throw punches in bursts and then back off. Dubois executed his gameplan perfectly. Was on his toes from minute 1 and Joshua had no answer. Dubois landed some heavy jabs in the first 30 seconds of the fight and Joshua knew he was in trouble straight away.
Agreed, I thought he looked hyper focused walking in. If he was relaxed, laughing and looking around people would say he lost because he didn't take the fight seriously. Credit where its due, I thought Joshua's ring walk was absolutely bad ass. The shot of him marching towards the camera with the fire going off behind him was awesome. Good music choices too. I agree, his head was getting snapped back by Dubois' jab early in the first. Someone on one of the Youtube channels said it's nice to see Dubois use his jab as part of his arsenal as opposed to a range finder as many do.
He looked fine before the fight, he always looks fine before he fights as has pretty much every boxer ever.
He got battered …. Take nothing away from Dubois …. However I noticed on his ring walk he is unsteady on his legs and stumbles … and after he stumbles his legs look unsteady and stiff …. He’s probs had another anxiety attack or something … wonder if he had a sedative or something to calm him as he acted in the fight in the same weird way when he fought Ruiz …. Maybe some ongoing issue we don’t know about which they control but he has episodes .. I Duno just a thought … watch the ring walk when he first appears it’s there for all to see
The stumble is about 1.10 from Umars video above …. Not as good an angle as another video going about I’ll see if I can find it… legs stiff as a board
Shane McGuigan was excellent as co commentator with some really relevant and insightful comments. Maybe AJ should consider hiring him as a trainer for the rematch against Dubois ? I don't believe AJ can perform this poorly again. I'm still shocked that he looked like a novice saturday night.
You’re right. I meant didn’t want to throw anything and was unsure of himself. If I remember correctly True Gordie on his channel today said AJ landed 2 jabs in total in round 1.
Any live fighter that throws leather will destroy him as he simply cannot take even a mediocre punch without falling apart. The mediocre Dillian Whyte had him going in round 2, the old man Wlad at 41 had him on the hook and the small obese Ruiz Jnr detroyed him. The above, the soft vacant title acquisitions, the soft defences were clear signs of what was coming when he stepped up against live opponents in Usyk and Dubois. Journeyman Joshua is the new Chisora should he continue.
He just didn’t look right to me. I believe he arrived at the stadium with less than an hour before his ring walk in which time he had to wrap up, warm up, do any official business and whatever else. To me that doesn’t make for a good state of mind on the way in.
1 hour pre fight is more than enough to warm up etc and it was his decision regarding his arrival time. He simply got destroyed by a better man and it would be the same outcome if he arrived 3 hours before the fight.
