He's lost two fights that he was really expected to win. That rematch against Ruiz shouldn't really count much given the shape Ruiz came in. Imo, the guy is extremely over paid in comparison to his true boxing ability and fighting heart, he goes completely gun shy when in there with a real live dog who will give back as good as he gets if not better
He'll never be remembered as an all time great, but he'll be considered a decent if limited champion who unified most of the big belts and tried to deliver fights with the big names of his era - only really Wilder and Fury escaped him, and they were more concerned with each other than fighting him.
This one hurts Joshua’s legacy more than the Ruiz loss. He can say he was concussed vs Ruiz but he got dominated here one sided and had no clue how to adjust.
Knocking over old men who stand in front of you is not what champions are made of. Wilder ruined a $200m fight. bhahaha. Fury is going to murder him for this.
If he retired right now I would rank him similarly to Floyd Patterson. Not quite an ATG but a hall of famer
I don't see the loss as such a big deal considering Joshua has a rematch clause. Joshua just like with Ruiz could comeback and beat Usyk if he employs the right strategy. Joshua didn't pace himself properly and as I expected Usyk being as experienced as he is made him pay every time he left an opening. But, as I've been saying for years Joshua really needs to work on moving his head. He also let Usyk land to the body whenever he wanted, which is just giving away points and emptying your own gas tank.
At least give him credit for accepting the fight. He took a risk and it went bad but he deserves respect for talking the challenge. He could have easily gave up his belt and fought somebody else to keep his other titles titles.
The rematch does count against Ruiz no excuses. AJ is a solid champ but nothing special, I wouldn't rematch Usyk right away if I was him. He needs to learn how to use his size and go to the body on Usyk if he's going to stand a chance.
