Ali fought Doug Jones and Archie Moore by that point and for his 20th fought Sonny Liston. He's got the better record, plus he did it five years faster than Joshua.

Joe Louis faced Primo Carnera in his 20th fight. He was 21 and this marked his big step up where he cleans out the division fighting a who's who in the sport over his next six fights, but AJ fighting Wlad in his 19th fight is better than Carnera, even though he's doing it six years later than Joe Louis.

AJ's record definitely isn't as good as Holyfield's who fought Dwight Qawi x2, Carlos de Leon, Henry Tillman, James Tillis, and Pinklon Thomas in his first 20.

Jack Johnson fought Joe Choynski and Klondike in his first ten, and Frank Childs and Ed Martin his next ten fights. Right after that he fights Sam McVey. Not bad.

Looks like there's only been 3 heavyweights with better opposition in thier first 20 fights than Joshua, but it's probably not good to compare fighters in the past who could have 100 fights in a career with moderns who might not go 50. For instance, Mike Tyson fought every month his first two or three years and became champ at 20. AJ doesn't become champ until he's 27.

they had all fought at or beyond the level of charles martin within 18 fights.

Martin is a glorified journeyman at best, exemplified in his "sit down and grin" round 1 move typical of a lower tier journeyman.

Jim Jeffries became lineal HW champ in his 15th fight.

Before his 20th fight he defeated Bob Fitzsimmon 2X, James J Corbett 2X, Tom Sharkey, Gus Rhulin, and Peter Jackson.

He retired undefeated, until coming back to face Jack Johnson and lose in his 20th and final bout.

    The original post.
Says Ali fought 28 times before beating a champ.
Ali became lineal HW Champ in his 20th fight against Liston. And at 22 years old.

Too late for Joshua to match that achievement. Which is totally okay for AJ because that's an astronomical feat.

You can't compare guys who haven't won the lineal heavyweight title to legends. Posters are just keeping it real because the Brits are on overdrive with their love for AJ.
