    He's 22! (was 21 in his world title stab last year against Sabillo - and he really should have won IMO)

    Gonzalez himself thinks pretty highly of him, FWIW. :conf

    I think he definitely sees him as his eventual successor as king of Nicaraguan boxing.

    Gonzalez was hardly perfect or near the finished article when he was that age. Hell, even when he was two years older than Buitrago is now Gonzalez was having trouble with guys like Chango Vargas (who is a heck of a tough journeyman but was a big underdog and not expected to win 3-4 rounds and make it a FOTY candidate like he did...)

    I'd agree with IB, it doesn't take long to see there's something special about Buitrago. Don't know why he's been so inactive as of late.

    I read he had a fight scheduled earlier this year but it had to be canceled after Buitrago came in ridiculously over the weight limit.

    Interesting. Doesn't really surprise me. He's been fighting at 105 for about 6 years now. Been ranked for the last two.

    Yeah, after a quick search it seems he was scheduled to fight (eventual title challenger) Alcides Martinez in May, but he came in 8 pounds over weight. A move up is definitely in the near future, although I get the sense he will atleast try to get another title shot before then.
