I am not a fan of Al, but he has a real good point there.

You could say that. OR you could say that SRL decided to fight his fight instead of being goaded into fighting Duran's fight, and completely outclassed him. And so did Tommy Hearns.

And JCC whoops Duran at lightweight. So there.

I didn't know MAB fought Pac at 122, when he had less than 500 fights. I also didn't know that Marquez never hit his prime until his mid 30's. I guess you learn something new everyday.

I would say thats a total myth perpetuated by people who havent seen the fight..Leonard outclassed Duran for two rounds of that fight, when it looked like Roberto had basically given up anyway.

The first 6 before rounds were competitive with neither guy really stamping their authority..the scores at the time of the stoppage reflect that. Leonard was doing a lot of taunting, a hell of a lot of moving but really wasnt throwing much, and certainly not landing to much either...Neither was Roberto but really I cant see how anyone who has watched that fight can come to the conclusion that Leonard dominated from the start..it simply did not happen.

Duran beats Chavez at 135...though its one of the ultimate matchups at the weight and would have been the tits to witness.

both eras are interesting. nostalgia though would probably lead most of us to vote for the 80's quartet as a lot of boxing fans were introduced to the sport in that era. my only comment though is that the 4 fighters then have vastly different physiques which in turn would lead to different approaches and challenges as they fight each other.

hearns for me truly towered over the other 3 fighters, if i am not mistake duran was the shortest and marvin hagler the most physically imposing of the lot. his knock out of hearns is still vivid in my mind, was it third round?

the mab, em, jmm and pac quartet on the other hand was more homogenuous in physique and although they had different styles which in a way would make the matchups more even and intriguing.

this has resulted to massivley popular trilogy involving em and mab. pac and em and hopefully pac and jmm.

in due time, i think the later quartet would be voted as the better group marginally at best although i would think that srl would trump any of the fighter in the latter quartet.

just think of the 80's quartet as that of the cav's with srl being lebron. but the latter quartet are the magic, they would have the better team overall.

What the **** are you talking about? 500 fights?

Barrera was still in his prime at 126, in 2003. If he wasn't in his prime, he was as close to it as possible.

Marquez is a better fighter today than he has ever been. I guess deadshits can learn something new every day.

agree...the birth of the fab 4 had manny factors that allowed them to suceed..leonard was the one of the highest paid/most followed pro debut by a boxer. Duran was already a top 10 ATG before he fought leonard. Then came the charismatic tommy hearns. Hagler was already established middle when he entered the picture..

Morales-Barrera paved the way for pacquiao and marquez and Pac and JMM have carried their rivalry from 126 all the way to 147
