Al Bernstein: Pacquiao May Be Best Ever Under 135 and I can back it up w/ strong case

He was definately a good analyzer of fights and fighters, that **** is a bit anal though to sit there and watch a fight through in slow-mo.

But he took Pac nut-huggery to a whole different level at times. The man does seem to be on the money most of the time though. He's still doing it over at MBF.

I never knew pacd studied other fighters. I doubt he has much success predicting fights that don't involve pac.

He said they produced better fights, he never said they were better fighters.

As for Pac, he's not the greatest fighter ever under 135. He's not really even one of the best boxers at a particular weight class, period. At no weight he's fought at would I favor him over the top fighters to have fought at the weight. What Pac has going for him are his achievements and capabilities throughout a variety of weight classes. He's simply an amazing physical talent in how consistent he's been through the weights. I don't think that makes him better than other one-weight fighters, though. Certain fighters are just genetically suited much better to one weight class, whereas others have the capabilities of moving through different weight divisions comfortably.

This has less to do with a fighter's skill level or general boxing ability and more with their genetics, though they have to be given their due credit regardless. I just think people get carried away with the whole weight-leaping thing. I judge a fighter based on their overall ability, particularly against elite opposition, regardless of whether or not they did it at one weight class or multiple.

By saying that you are saying the era is stronger...therefore the talent in that era is superior..Therefore yes, you are inferring that MAB et al are better then the fab 4..which is poop talk.

 

Pac is awesome. Duran was the best lightweight champion in boxing history.

Pep was an awesome boxer. He once won a fight without throwing a punch.

 

i gree with berstein about being below 135.....i'm still skeptically of pac above 135.

 

Im prepared to class Pac over a lot of fighters but... anything he does from now on while adding to his overall legacy should he succeed will be accomplished at 140 and beyond.

That said I am not prepared to put him above a LOT of people under 135 but I cannot for the life of me see putting him over a man like Roberto Duran.
