That was some of the worst commentary I've ever heard. He spent the entire fight with his nose touching Canelo's belly button. I feel I've heard decent commentary from him in the past, but this was absurd. Are commentators not allowed to acknowledge the good work of the non-money fighter anymore? This is matchroom level bias. I expected better of a network that was once a rival to HBO. Abner Mares is sitting there subtly mentioning when Plant is showing class and getting punches off, almost as if he's not allowed to say anything. There was a lot of: "Canelo is gonna turn it up soon, he wants to show his greatness!" *Canelo eats a 5 punch combo* *silence* Do we really need to continue selling Canelo the brand at this level? He's a known quantity. Just call the ****ing fight and stop sucking one fighter off. Bernstein capped the night off by talking about the jab (it seems he's just regurgitating a speech about the importance of the jab by someone else and actually DKSAB). Al, you had no idea what you were watching and looked like a clueless panderer.
Bernstein has probably called more fights than anyone out there and hes been doing it for a long time now and he was usually pretty good specially in his ESPN days. I didnt saw the fight cause i dont bother with Canelo fights but if Bernstein was that bad like you said then thats a shame cause like i said he used to be pretty good.
I've enjoyed his commentary in previous fights. He sounded like he was paid off, it was strange. The audio of the fight did not match the video. Also bumbling his way through narrating a replay - he just sounded clueless AND bias.
I only heard 10 seconds of a highlights video...10 seconds of Mauro Ranallo screaming is all I can take.
Back in the day when there was HBO boxing, I much preffered big fights be on Showtime to avoid having to listen to the utter bias and nonsense of the HBO broadcast team. Al Bernstien whether on ESPN or Showtime has always called a fair broadcast I feel. The thing I've liked about Bernstien over the years is that while he gave his opinion, in close rounds and fights, he'd always backtrack on how some of the judges could see it the other way by looking at x, y, and z. I've found Al Bernstien to be nothing short of a real proffessional in his calls. As far as Bernstien favoring Canelo over Plant, thats not so hard to comprehend when you realize Canelo was in complete control of the actions in the fight.
I didn't catch the SHO feed, but; Is Bernstein married? I've always thought he came off a bit fruity.
Guy showed the world he was shot to **** and a total joke by signing to announce a TRILLER fight lmao. Can you imagine LAMPS doing serious commentating next to snoop dog or whoever the **** they had. Al Bernstein SHO needs to fire your ass, YDKSAB
I lost all respect for him as a commentator many years ago after hearing him explaining how Mike Tyson didn’t have much power, not even close to an actual puncher like Marciano. He revises history and mis-calls fights based on his own personal biases, IMO.
