Al Bernstein's WHAT IF show's First Edition: Frazier vs Holyfield!!!

What a fight this would be. I agree with Bernstein. Frazier by decision but like Al said Holy's uppercut could play a role. I thik Evander would land it often and it was a helluva punch but Joe could make him pay with his left hook. I still lean toward Frazier but this could go either way.

 

I think Frazier's bodywork would be the main difference in a war.

 

Great, great fight. I'd take Holy in a close decision and all out war, but it could go either way. You know who'd really win? The fans.

 

Frazier UD. It's not an issue with punch resistance or even power. It comes down to workrate and Frazier would outwork Holyfield. Frazier was also much better on the inside than Evander which would be the difference.

I'd give Holyfield a chance over 12 (though Frazier is the favourite), but over 15 it's another story. He certainly can't either outbox or outbrawl him for 15 rounds, and I don't see him getting the KO (but possibly a KD in the early rounds).

Holyfield's best gameplan would be to move for a while and then engage + he must try to slow it down at times by clinching and holding. It takes a very cool head to get this exactly right and Holyfield exhibited that kind of cool calculation too seldom.

 

Frazier's chin was a little suspect, and he lacked variety to his game. In the center of the ring, Holfyield has the edge.

In terms of trading, Frazier could hook to the body or the head well but Holyfield was a good counter puncher, and could in-fight some too.

In the end, I think Holyfield was the better boxer, and harder man. He'd either out box or hurt Frazier more than vice versa. I'd pick Holyfield via late round TKO or close but clear decsion. The fans would get their monies worth for sure.

 

Holyfield wouldn't box nor does he have the power to put Frazier away. Frazier is much better inside than Holyfield is. He would draw Holyfield into a brawl and would win based on workrate.

 

I also agree with Bernstein.

 

Holyfield put a good 15 round performance against Dwight Muhommad Quai and he beat Mike Tyson...

 

An amazing match up with a decision for Joe ... very hard fought ...

 

He totally did exactly that versus Tyson.

 

Prime Holy outboxes Frazier over 12 or 15 rds.......... The Holy of '91 beats the Frazier of 1970......

For my part, I think Frazier outworks Holyfield. It'd be a great fight, but in the end, Frazier will be the one to take that decision victory.
