It's to the point where I don't even care if Boxing is Monopolized by one manager/promoter etc this sport needs it along with having too many belts & weight classes with the right monopoly these issues can be fixed Too many promoters that do not like each other Networks that support certain promoters If Haymon for example signed everyone think of it as a big league like the UFC or NBA If this happens this would simplify things making all the networks being forced to work with Haymon and co which eliminates all the HBO fighter Showtime bull**** as well as promotors not doing business with each other because it would be no other promoter that would be as strong, only promoters that he would need to worry about is Foreign promoters such as Matchbox etc Again I'm not one to support monopoly but boxing really needs it
I'm tired of bashing Haymon. The network fights all sound fine. When boxing was on network television in the 50s, 60s, 70s and 80s, every fight wasn't something great, either. And what are we defending by bashing Haymon? Are we supposed to snub FREE title fights on FREE TV ... and then get excited to pay $100 for a Mayweather-Pac PPV? We've got four major ratings organizations that felt it was a huge deal when they FINALLY (after decades) came to an agreement on the "names" of each division. (Everyone will call 154 SUPER WELTER instead of Junior middle.) The WBA has three WBA champs in one division ... not counting the other champs named by the other divisions. The WBC gives out green belts and silver belts to EVERYONE. Bob Arum is more interested in making fights in China than the U.S. Don King wants Deontay Wilder to fight Mike Tyson. De La Hoya seems determined to "make" Canelo Alvarez a PPV star ... and charge people $75 to watch his fights ... apparently only because he's Mexican and he's got red hair and freckles, because none of his fights are particularly good. If Haymon is putting decent title fights on free TV to build a boxing audience, great. If he wants to create his own "league" with its own champs ... fine. It's not like the WBC or the WBA or any of them are doing anything to defend. They've had their shot at running things for decades, and they are all train wrecks. Teddy Atlas has been *****ing for decades that boxing needs a commissioner. Well, maybe Al Haymon has took it upon himself to be that commissioner. Hell, I hope PAC AND MAYWEATHER DON'T sign. If they don't, MAYBE THEY'll FIGHT FOR FREE ON CBS PRIME TIME in 2016. Let advertisers pay for it instead of fans. The Super Bowl isn't on PPV. The World Series isn't on PPV. The Stanley Cup isn't on PPV. Why the hell should a big welterweight title fight be on PPV for $100? Let Haymon take over. The status quo sucks. His broadcasts on free TV are better than anything HBO has shown so far this year ... and I'm paying for that channel just waiting for them to show any fights at all.
Boxing has been such a mess, this could really help make it better and more popular. Especially since UFC and MMA are in their death throes.
The Golovkin fight is going to be over in about two rounds. The Super Bowl isn't on PPV. The World Series isn't on PPV. The Stanley Cup isn't on PPV. Why the hell should a big welterweight title fight be on PPV for $100? All of us boxing fans are idiots. If Ali can fight on network TV. So can Mayweather and Pac. The only reason boxing became a regular part of HBO and Showtime is because the networks stopped carrying it.
The better the fights, the more people watch, the more money in Al "The Businessman" Haymon's pocket.
exactly but when Al Haymon trys to feature it on free CBS/NBC he the devil I'm all for bringing the sport to a bigger audience
most obvious, boxing is a niche sport. advertisers aren't sponsoring it. it ain't as mainstream as the other sport you mentioned. that is why it faded away from network tv.
True but someone has to atleast give it a try I give Duva credit she gave it a go but did not have as strong of stable of fighters as Haymon did, Arum/GBP could have done the same thing. Something has to change because the way the sport is now is not cutting it
You could record it like you were talking about and just skip them. Or you could quit being such a little drama queen and endure 60 grueling seconds of commercials while the boxers are just sitting on their stools getting yelled at.
