There is a pretty wild rumor in boxing circles about Haymon's fighters. It is said that none of the fighters he represents actually have contracts with their promoters (Berto w/ Dibella, Broner w/ Golden Boy and so forth). Promoters deal with Haymon strictly. It's like he is their manager/promoter/etc. It is also very strange that his clients were always given soft touches on HBO (Berto was essentially handed the WBC against Mikki Rodriguez). Expect Haymon to shift his momentum to Showtime.
Yeah, I think Haymon calls the shot when it comes to most aspects of his fighters careers. Hes undoubtedly one of the top 4 most influential people in boxing. I also think hes probably very shrewd and difficult to deal with given that his fighters usually get paid very well compared to their opponents and the details like gloves, ring size, etc favor his fighters.
The rumor is Ken Hershman is not going to play ball with Haymon and has already let him know that. Hence him taking Berto to Showtime. I expect to see a lot of the lesser Haymon fighters on Showtime instead of HBO in 2012.
judging by that pic on the nytimes I was right next to him for awhile and didnt bat an eye. I talked to Floyd, but Berto was demoted to the floor seats a few rows back.
