Not surprised. Haymon's plan is to thin out the potential opponent pool of GGG, Ward, and Kovalev so HBO has no option but to continue airing mismatches with them. Sign away the possible money/name opponents for those guys, and there's less public pressure for his fighters to face them. Haymon can then have the recruited guys fight amongst each other on Showtime, collecting fees from both sides and being able to dictate terms since these fighters are burning HBO bridges by leaving the network for Haymon.

He'll target Ward once his legal situation is resolved.

This dude is an exceptionally shrewd businessman who's going to continue making a fortune for himself. We'll see if the gamble turns out to be worth it for the fighters, but it wouldn't be the first time a promoter who promises the world today leaves 'em high and dry tomorrow.

    GGG/Jr needs to happen first.

If the fight gets stopped, it's a sign of very bad things to come for boxing. I don't like all these mismatches popping up on Showtime.

    Dan Rafael's twitter:

Chatter continues to intensify that Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. is in talks with Al Haymon. If he signs Chavez, there goes proposed GGG fight.

Whatever happens with Chavez Jr., Arum won't go down without a fight. They're supposed to meet next week when Arum is back from his trip.

...sickening. With Junior being the #1 rated contender @ WBC (surprise!), I can see Bika-Chavez Jr on as soon as Haymon signs him. Chavez wasn't happy with how much he was going to get per fight with Arum's multi-year contract, and Haymon looks like he just one-upped him.

I wonder if this will help lure Andre Ward over to SHO again???

Wouldn't be a bad investment. If he can keep Jr. in shape and protected till next year then a clash between him and Canelo on Cinco de Mayo would do epic ppv numbers. He'd nearly see his return on investment on that fight alone. No doubt Floyd would move off of that date for Haymon and this fight.

At what weight? Junior can't make 160 anymore. Can't see Canelo agreeing to 168 either.

Which is why I stated next year. Canelo appears to have moved on from 154, he'll be a full fledged MW before the years end. By May perhaps he'd be comfortable at a catchweight, maybe 165 or even the full 168 if the money is right (which it will be).

If Junior defects then you can bet Ward will follow...
