Ducked Kovalev. Ducking Hopkins. The two biggest fights for Stevenson and Haymon isn't getting them made. Is Haymon trying to match him with lower ranked fighters for the rest of his career? or at least until Mayweather Promotions takes off? Imo Haymon knows both guys beat him so he's trying to have Stevenson avoid the two, same goes for Quillin and any credible threat in the division. He knows these boys aren't the goods against the best in the division, just like Russell Jr. Floyd of course didn't need to be told when it came to Pacquiao, he already knew!
Yes, Hopkins/Stevenson is not going to happen, it's the fighter that fought recently, never heard of him, but that will be Hopkins' next fight. Kovalev would knock Hopkins out and so would Stevenson..............
Hopkins said there has been no contact from Stevenson side, despite Bernard reaching out. The poor old man has had to go to the lengths of pretending he wants the Kovalev fight just to get their attention and put the squeeze on Stevenson.
:think If Stevenson is smart then he should know that people around him will try to cash him out. He is 36 after all. Maybe Haymon is trying to expand his career a little bit and cash him out next year? :conf If i was Setevnson i would probably take one more fight just for the money.
I think it's a power-play, Stevenson is the kingpin at 175 (theoretically). If he loses, Haymon loses control of the division. Don't forget he has Dawson and Rodriguez signed, amongst others. Hopkins is not a Haymon fighter, and of course neither is Kovalev.
Stevenson isn't scheduled or rumored to fight anybody yet. And the only person Hopkins has been rumored to fight is his mandatory. How about you actually wait to see what both do first before you go around accusing people of ducking. It's one of the most overused words on this forum
He's rumored not to be fighting Hopkins - from Hopkins himself. "Ducking" or "avoiding" is part of boxing terminology, fighters themselves use it all the time. If your emotions are too sensitive to handle it, then perhaps you shouldn't be in a boxing discussion forum.
When you use the word "Ducking", they automatically think of Mayweather. That's why they're so sensitive about it.
I'm not a Stevenson fan. I was born near Philly, the hometown of Bernard Hopkins and saying Stevenson is ducking him at this point is silly. If Stevenson announces his next fight this week and it's against somebody like Allan Green, then you can claim duck all you want
Quillin is the piece GBP/Haymon are hanging onto at Middleweight in the event Alvarez/Mayweather ever want to challenge for the MW title. Looks like Quillin will end up having to face Korobov. Based on what I saw on HBO, that looks to be a winnable fight for Quillin. The best fight would be between either Jacobs, Lemieux, or Stevens.
