And 90’s mate. A fella called Kenny Norville took them off him I think. A friend of mine had a straightener with one of his doorman a heavyweight named John foreman, We went for a curry after on broad street, and in walks Al Stevens with a few of his doorman. I thought here we go, but he come up and shook my pals hand and said “good punch” an sat down for food. A fair man, but normally we’d of got filled in I was surprised how fair he was. A new breed come after him and that wouldn’t have happened, wed of been broken up, face first in to me chicken korma I think

Nice tribute well done, With regards to Al stevens he is still fit as a fiddle , and still a gentlemen.
I knew John very well from the amateurs. He was always getting called out by " Hard cases", he hated all that stuff. Last I heard, John was running a youth charity foundation. A very well liked man.
He might end up being the best if most people haven't heard about him. I've seen him showing off in his training sessions and he seems to be really good at what he's doing.
Al trained me at the Touch of Class gym on Western Road in Winson Green, Birmingham. I went there from around 1997/8 till about 2002/3. Al was a nice guy, like a gentle giant, and quite funny when he wanted to be. He made time for the guys he trained. I had gone to previous boxing gyms, but they didn’t compare to his, his input. Someone else queried if he worked the doors. He did, a club in Birmingham, then an (Irish) pub in Digbeth. In later life he had health issues I believe, which is a shame as he lived and breathed boxing and fitness. I am so sorry to hear he has passed, as he was a great guy, may he RIP!
