A link to an article I wrote on an almost forgotten fighter as well as a link to some rare footage of him. http://www.boxing.com/the_alabama_kid_kos_australia.html http://www.t3licensing.com/license/...ssetId=clip_8856627&keywords=boxing,australia
holy sh.t well this just made my week. Thanks for sharing man great footage, didn't realize he was a southpaw and everything they throw has mean intentions on it. Would it be possible for you to upload the clip to a more mainstream video site so i could save it?
Interesting stuff. Good to see you got an answer on the nickname: being from Alabama, I always wondered about that. I started a thread on him a few years ago that I'm sure you can find through the search. IIRC, at least one of his descendants or someone from his family tree jumped in and provided some information.
Reeves is a pet interest of mine. I've posted about him on here a few times. Just to rehash: this was the basis (IMO, though I've made the connection myself and never found any documented instance of substantiation, which is strange, because it seems fairly obvious) for the character of "The Memphis Kid" in The Professional by W.C. Heinz.
Glad some of you enjoyed the article and the footage. Looks like the fight with Richards was an absolute classic. Wish I could find more footage of Alabama but could only find that short clip, of which the ABC here in Australia own the rights to, so unfortunately I can't upload it anywhere else. Ive been meaning to read The Professional as I'm a fan of Heinz's work, think I definitely have to now!
