I visualise a distance bout for this one, unless Minter gets cut up. I give the edge to Sumbu - just a little more skilled than Alan.

    Like minded, Stevie.
I give it to Kalambay,. By decision unless as you say, Alan s skin starts leaking again.

I could see this going a lot like minter v harris with minter getting picked of at range and getting cut to ribbons.
Id say Kalambay gets the stoppage in the middle rounds on cuts.

Sumbu carves him up like a Thanksgiving turkey, ahead on points when it’s stopped in the seventh. Maybe ninth or tenth if Alan’s cut man is having an expectially good day.

Alan Minter was as tough as they come but his weakness was brittle skin around the eyebrows, he lost by cuts to Ronnie Harris on April 12 1977 and Gratien Tonna on Sept 21 1977. Minter was being mentioned as a possible challenger for undisputed World Middleweight Champion Carlos Monzon in early 1977 after Monzon defeated WBC Champion Rodrigo Valdes on June 26 1976 in Monte Carlo, Monaco by unanimous 15 round decision, decking Valdes in round 14. But the losses to Harris and Tonna derailed such a match. Sumbu Kalambay was a slick boxer, had impressive wins over Doug DeWitt, Mike McCallum, but was stopped by Michael Nunn on March 25 1989. Minter behind his right jab would be the aggressor, forcing the action. Kalambay's slickness however piles up the points early. Kalambay on points after a really good fight.

I agree with consensus - points or cuts, Kalambay wins.

Minter wasnt that talented, but more of a hot head street fighter who liked to rumble

this is why he lost so many fights on cuts. As we can all see, he was not that great a boxer and how he got a title shot with so many tko losses, tells me he was somewhat privileged with many connections

Kalambay in a close tough bout

Yeah this isn’t about questioning Minter or not respecting him, but Kalumbay is just a bad match for him all the way around. Too slick and he could open a can of tomato soup with that jab.

Minter was a good boxer, he had decent power and when he used the southpaw jab and stayed largely on the outside he was a handful for anyone. His problem was that sometimes he engaged in tear ups which wasn’t a good idea with his brittle skin. He deserved his shot at the title as much as most.
It’s strange that on here Antuofermo seems to be quite revered yet Minter beat him twice the second time stopping him and administering a beating.

Alan Minter did defeat Vito Antuofermo twice.
