Yes Dakin 's scorecard was a lop sided win for Minter ,but as Mickey Duff pointed out , more should have been made of the judge who scored for Antuofermo.

i didn't think it was close either.
vito said he was the second coming of jake lamotta, but lamotta had a lot of boxing skills including a good left jab,he also didn't bleed like ****.

Vito even went to the extent of have the prominent bone under his eyebrows shaved ,but it made no difference ,I was ringside when Minter carved him up in the rematch, and sitting behind Antuofermo at the Minter Hagler Fight ,Vito was doing colour commentary ,some one jostled him in the ensuing melee,[not me ], and he turned round and punched them out! You can see him in The God Father part 3 ,he plays Joey Zaza's bodyguard.

I know Vito since the golden gloves in N.Y....he was always a tough ballsy **** ..he was alway plagued by cuts..he had some power (Eugene Hart KO) but he was more of a mauler and had good stamina...but I know him from the streets and you would not want to roll on the sidewalk with him

Not when most of the ringside press scored for Antuofermo, which they did.

Both men were bleeders, Minter much moreso though and that would likely be the difference in the outcome. I think he would probably be slightly ahead on the cards before getting stopped due to a cut sometime between rounds 9-13 with Carmen coming on strong before the stoppage.

Both tough fighters, Basilio moving up from welterweight to take on the great Sugar Ray Robinson, and winning the World Middleweight title from him on Sept 23 1957, by split decision, only to lose it back to Robinson on March 25 1958, by decision. Alan Minter, once mentioned as a possible opponent for the great Carlos Monzon in early 1977, for the World Middleweight Title, probably in Monte Carlo, Monaco. Minter later won the World title from Vito Antuofermo, on March 16 1980, by split decision. He repeated that feat on June 28 1980, by an 8th round TKO. Alan then lost it to Marvelous Marvin Hagler, on Sept 27 1980, in London, by TKO 3. Minter being a southpaw, would land that very stiff right jab, swelling up the eyes of Basilio, keeping him on the outside, just as Sugar Ray did. Alan's size and toughness carries him to a unanimous decision win over the aggressive Basilio.
