Alan Minter vs John The Beast Mugabi, Both prime, 160 lbs, 15 rounds. Could Alan box his way to a decision in 15 rounds? Would the Beast rough up Minter for a quick victory? Alan did defeat a rough Vito Antuofermo twice.

Minter is the better boxer but I am not sure if he could stay out of Mugabi's way. Think I lean towards Mugabi, the undefeated version that fought Hagler, anyway.

Minter was the far better boxer,,but I can see Mugabi losing 3 or 4 rounds then nailing Minter and stopping him. Hagler walked through Minter and Mugabi could do the same.

The Beast would kill Minter. And I would applaud. TKO 1.

No, I do not care for him. Mostly the person though. I will admit he was a fairly good boxer. Still, all disdain for him aside, I still think Mugabi would destroy him very early.

I was basing the comparison of the Vito and Mugabi bouts to come up with this matchup. Minter did have a good stiff right jab ,

    Nah.
    Mugabi’s overrated on here.
    Minter’s underrated.

As a former neighbour of Minter at arguably his drunken worse, I get the hate; and that is not including the worse of him: The racism, which was horrendous, even for the time.

For what it is worth, he did find someone later on life who did seem to help him, hopefully a lot.

But that all said, with hindsight, there is no reason to think Mugabi has much of a chance in a prime vs prime match up. Cuts are always a factor when Boom Boom is involved, but Mugabi is unlikely to have the discipline or stamina to capitalise if Minter was busted up.

Minter in the championship rounds for me.

Minter on points. Mugabi was terrible.

I wouldn’t say he is terrible. Matter of fact I think he was very good at 154, but at 160 he is not on par at the championship level just as reality confirmed.

Mugabi’s reputation seems to be mainly based on a losing effort against a shopworn Hagler.
He had some decent wins against middling opposition on the way up, but like I say he’s way overrated on here.
Minter was a better boxer and he wasn’t exactly feather fisted he had pop, and I think he’d outbox Mugabi to a UD or stop him late.

This could be a an horrendous fight for Minter. Yes he's the more skilled man in it but The Beast brings a fair bit of power. And let's not forget that Alan did at times have a tendency to cut. Can't rule that out either.
I'd like to say Minter by late ko but I have a suspicioun that The Beast has the blood flowing.
    Mugabi wrsc 6.
