Nunn fairly comfortably and i'm far from convinced it goes the distance, i could Minter stopped on cuts late.
Minter wins this one quite handily. I dont know if the mystique of the 1988-1990 nunn prevails over the rest of his career....but to my mind nunn was struggling with a shot to pieces don curry, he seemed bored with starling and barkley and was unable to put in a solid shift...thats not gonna work with a minter used to forcing a hard pace over 15 ...a slick smooth boxing southpaw ..an olympic medalist...who beat emile griffith, sugar ray seales, gratien tonna, antuofermo and finnegan...thats a hell of a resume...he was outboxing ronnie harris before the cut..nunn doesnt have the punch to bother minter...hes not gonna do a kalambay...on him ...instead hes going to have to box 15... Minter is going to outlast him...minter was better than liles, little, and rocchigiani...tate or a finished roldan....and hes bigger than starling and curry...with a very respectable punch....
Wow! I thought I was the biggest Minter fan on this forum. I am impressed but cannot convince myself to make the same pick. I think Nunn would take this fairly comfortably, and can't give Alan more than a punchers chance...which he does have. I just don't find this scenario very likely. But I (would) hope you are right
Harris outclassed Minter and busted him up. Seales was winning comfortably until he got nailed in the 5th rd Griffith was nearly 39 years old! Minter lost the first Tonna fight.
Well i saw minter hold his own and wobble harris across the ring.the cut bought an anti climax. Tonna won the battle but who won the war? Griffith was shopworn but so was curry and so was roldan. Seales got beaten conclusively what came before isnt as relavent as the result.seales was a gold medalist he was never going to be a walkover...unless your name was hagler. Hagler 1980 would have massacred nunn....id have loved to have seen a 1988 nunn-haglerpost srl fight though....fascinating
You saw it differently to me, Mickey Duff, and Box rec then.Duff was in the US when this match was made and he tried like hell to get it cancelled but the fight was too far along "Ron Harris, 1968 U.S. Olympic Games lightweight champion, pounded Britain's European middleweight titlist Alan Minter's face into a bloody pulp until the referee halted the onslaught in the eighth round of a scheduled 10 round contest." -San Mateo Times This content is protected This content is protected You've gone from "outboxing him" to "holding his own,"what's next, not doing too badly?
This was my take on the Minter-Ronnie Harris fight when I scored it. I was curious of an Alan Minter fight I saw back in the day and was ecstatic that someone uploaded it to youtube. It was his bout against Ronnie Harris of Ohio. What I remember about this fight was that it was fought at breakneck speed. Indeed, the pace was terrific. Here we go on, what I believe employed in Britain was a 10 point must system with the loser getting 9 1/2. And again, I think you'll love the pace of this bout. Round 1: Minter Round 2: Harris Round 3: Even Round 4: Minter Round 5: Harris Round 6: Harris Round 7: Harris Round 8: Harris Ref Sid Nathan stops the bout between the 8th and 9th with Minter cut over both eyes and his mouth cut. Total at time of stoppage: 79-77 1/2 Harris
Minters face getting bloodied seems to be your primary evidence he was taking a battering throughout no he wasnt, minter used to bleed at the national anthem and whats duff objecting to the fight pre hand got to do what took place once the fight started? It was pretty clear this was going to be a hard task early on the action but Alan gave Harris a hard competitive fight on my cards for 6 rounds than harris took over
I gave Minter 2 rounds out of the 8,therefore,imo he wasn't "outboxing" Harris as you stated. I know about Minter's propensity to cuts I saw his fights from ringside eg. Tonna2 Finnegan2&3 Paul Knight Francis Seales Harris Licata Hagler Knight Antuofermo2
