No way in hell Allen Minter, with his history of cutting easily, makes it to 1983 as champion even with Hagler out of the picture. He lost a few bouts on cuts before fighting Hagler.

Agreed, but the scenario set out makes Minter a much better fighter, with three years and many defences as the Middleweight Champion of the World. The skin is not an issue...

Minter by split decision, gives one of the best performances of his career.

Minter was a terrific fighter. He would go after Duran, unlike Hagler did. Duran was a great counterpuncher and would probably open some cuts up over time. Ths would devolve into a bloody mess. Duran would target the cuts and make them worse as the rounds went on. Minter would start out hard and reallly hammer Duran early from the outside. As the fight goes on, Duran gets in closer and starts landing counters. It devolves into a slugfest in the middle rounds when Minter gets cut.

In the latter half Minter is half blinded and that is where Duran starts to really land. IN my opinion this fight gets stopped by the 11th round on a TKO as Duran is ahead on the cards by one point and the fight has to be stopped. Duran takes the middleweight title, but if Minter was not such a bleeder he would have won on points having built up a lead. Barring MInter getting cut, Minter would win by split decsion as Duran would get a few 2 point rounds but probably lose a point for fouling at some point.

    This fight would be epic.

One of these days Mark, you’ll pick a Brit to win one of these fantasy match ups.

He`d need to, Duran was better at middle than anybody Minter beat.

That`s how Minter used to fight, loads of jabs that`s how he beat Vito A.

He did didnt he.There was a bit of contempt too in Minters work too the way he cuffed around vito like a little boy....its the classic styles make fights...antuoferma probably beat a better breed of foe and did much better against hagler but in the rematch with minter he was mugged off

I do not think you read the opening post. Duran is my favourite fighter, but under the stipulations mentioned, he would have been a big underdog for the fight.

I go with Duran to stop Minter by TKO in about 10 rounds.
