For anyone who's interested I've just uploaded this. There is plenty of footage of my dad available but not enough of Walter. This fight is a classic even if I say so myself. Awesome stuff Al. I always enjoy watching your dad's fights and you're right, not enough McGowan floating around.
Hell of a scrap. Your dad was looking beautiful over the first 10 rounds, out-boxing the boxing master. What a comeback by McGowan, though. He looked fresher and livelier in the championships rounds than any time prior.
He was a great fighter, I'd love to see the Chionoi fights on Youtube. For those who haven't see them he looked brilliant up until the cut eyed stoppages.
My favrouite British fight of all time. Rudkin does superb in the early rounds applying the steady pressure and really doing damage to McGowan and cutting him badly. However, McGowan comes back brilliantly from around the tenth and the 12th round is amazing as McGowan lands a superb right uppercut that stuns Rudkin, but Rudkin just soldiers forward. Rudkin turns into a more ggressive fighter to nick the last few rounds, and Harry Carpenter summed him up best in the last round as a 'bulldog'. I love this fight.
Yeh seems a very spirited and close affair according to the reports you sent me. Carpenter felt McGowan edged it, so it must have been razor close iMO
