Alan Williams: Hyde MMA Not Ducking Anyone; Jack, Leeroy To Get Their Shots

Hyde MMA's Alan Williams gives his thoughts on how Leigh Cohoon, Craig Chesters, Scott Jackson and Jim Ratcliffe will do at UCC 5: 'North West's Finest' on Friday Nov 12th, as well as his thoughts on the recent controversy on this forum.

A couple of quotes from the interview:

On Cohoon vs. Devant, and the timing of the rematch:

"It's not the type of contest we would have chosen ourselves, but we did get pushed into it to a certain extent," said Alan. "We couldn't get the match ups we actually wanted, and time was running short, so Danny Hornsby said that if we didn't choose Andy, it more or less looked as if we weren't going to have one.

"Andy's a big, tough guy that's extremely strong. In this sport, you can't guarantee anything. No one's got a 'Win, Win, Win' record. At the end of the day, he's probably got the same chance as most guys have, but we're prepared both standing and on the ground. Leigh's striking now is even better than last time, and his ground game is getting better and better.

"I think Leigh's a very underestimated Welterweight. He's extremely strong for his size, and he's quite a big guy. People don't take that on board."

On the Cage Warriors situation:

"At the end of the day, everyone wants a shot at the title," began Williams, speaking of the situation. "The thing is, any manager/coach etc. would always take care of his guys, and you don't want him jumping straight into a really hard defence.

"Saying that, Leigh Cohoon did against Andy Devant. We had this plan; I'd discussed it with Danny Hornsby, and I'd actually said that I'd like Lee Barnes, who's an exciting guy to watch. We also wanted Gavin Sterritt, who we did turn down last year because we wanted to build up Leigh. Leigh's had some tough contests, he's never had an easy fight and he's never ducked anyone.

"Now we're getting to the point of Avi Jack. He was/is in our plans, but that was next year. We can't give everyone a title shot on the same night and people have got to realise they have to wait their turn. We tried not to turn people down, but we want to take on a couple of tough, exciting guys, and everyone will have had their turn. That is if Leigh keeps his title - you just don't know. It's not as if we've been ducking people, and people have taken things entirely out of context.
