Josef, a 15-4-1 import from Namibia, scored an upset points victory over the debuting Egorov in the card opener. Aminova then beat Sariba in a spirited women's contest.

The originally advertised main event was Batyrgaziev versus former WBA featherweight champ Nicholas "Axe Man" Walters of Jamaica (surprisingly not only recently active but world ranked - #14 at lightweight by the WBA), but the change to Pagara was made within the last week.

Subhankulov faced tons of good international competition in the amateurs - usually coming up short but competitive against the best, though he did avenge his SD loss to Lazaro Álvarez once and defeated a fair number of second-stringers.

Liu starting to get dominated now - at least in the 1st round he was circling and matching step for step with Subhankulov. Now he's freezing up and getting hit by sudden mid-range combinations.

Every time Liu throws a left hook up top or plunging straight right at the body, Subhankulov is able to slip and punish him with 3-4 punch sequences that make Liu wince and blink.

Third was uglier, hence closer.

 

Btw - anybody watching on Amazon Prime, their version of "live" is on a delay about 90 seconds behind the IBA Boxing channel on YouTube.

 

The play by play commentator (heavily accented Brit - thinks it's Ronald McIntosh?) thought Liu made some inroads during the fourth round but doesn't go as far as suggesting he won it.

 

Subhankulov ducking in and countering slow predictable straight headhunting flurries with heavy body shot combos. Russian firmly back in control now at the halfway point.

 

Such a stark difference in not just their physique (Subhankulov is built like a brick shitehouse, while Liu is just a lean and lanky, vaguely athletic looking guy) but punching technique and fluidity of movement between them. I'm guessing Liu didn't have much amateur experience, let alone the oodles at high levels that Subhankulov did.
