Hmmm, hear me out... Rodolfo Martinez:his career ending after just one fight with Davila might make him seem washed, but on that same year he did beat Mike Ayala(who would go on to produce a FOTY with Danny Lopez) Frankie Duarte:again, he's coming off a loss but it's vs a decent titleholder in Bernardo Pinango, and the year before he retired Jesus Salud who's a saluted puncher at best. Lupe Pintor:sure,he was green, but so was Davila, fair game at least with Davila also producing another tiring inside fight vs Pintor in the future. Some more honorable mentions might be:Eddie Logan(Stops Alfonso Zamora in a big upset.) Alberto Sandoval(a respectable contender, lasted 12 with Pintor and 8 with Zamora.) Kiko Bejines(also another respectable contender, almost cracked his way the title but unfortunately died.) What do you think?
Falls short IMO. Mostly lost to all the great fighters he’s faced and I don’t think a single win over Pintor, Duarte, Martinez, and Bejines is enough to be HOF worthy. Terrific and skilled boxer with unlucky circumstances of not being physically gifted, winning the title via tragic incident, and also being around the same eras with monsters like Zarate and Gomez.
Defintly yes. Once you win a legit title and make at least 1 successful defense you should be considered for the HOF and he fought all the greats too.
I was a big Tweety fan but he almost always came up short in the big fights. Davila would be a charter member of the Hall of Very Good but doesn't belong in the Hall of Fame.
