Alberto Josue Machado vs. Andrew Cancio & Rey Geovani Vargas Roldán vs. Franklin Manzanilla RBR

That chubby Mexican girl at ringside is TURNT. Not sure if she's a friend or just some rando ring-rat, but either way she is giving Cancio the sloppiest and best cabeza of his life tonight.

 

Cancio is building a low-key very nice resume...

So far all of his best wins had asterisks (his stoppage of Alvarado was on cuts; Rocky Juarez and Hugo Cazares were great names but way past their sell-by date) but this is the cherry on top. Nothing you can say to detract from this. Came in a heavy underdog, Machado looked his usual self, just got outsmarted and outgunned. Cancio had the style and game plan (and guts) to walk through his best and beat him. Props.

 

What's the bigger upset (talking in terms of perception and in-the-moment shock value more so than by the bookmakers' numbers) - this, or Ruiz over Carto last night (with the left-handed kayo of the year) on the Raging Babe show?

Yes, I realize Carto was many levels below where Machado is, but proportionately he was in about the same position as favored house fighter. Machado vs. Cancio was at least seen as being competitive on paper by some heading in. Ruiz had a terrible record and the commentators on the show gave him virtually no chance during the ring walk introductions...
