I personally don't mind, but certain other mods might object. :conf

Certain other mod: please leave him alone. It was an innocent question.

(or Slice, if you want to edit just to be extra safe, your call...)

Really good. :nod Two tough rugged aggressive guys, fighting near the top level. Night and day difference from Prescott vs. Figueroa, buddy. :yep

Prescott himself is further away from top level than both Salgado and Barros, and Figueroa isn't even remotely close. His time came and went half a decade ago. He's a never-was and Prescott kayoing him at this point won't mean a damn thing (but will make some people get overexcited about Prescott..yet again... and start calling for a Khan rematch... yet again...:dead)

Into the seventh round, and Humberto Martinez is continuing to put in a stolid and workmanlike performance against...whoever it is in the pantalones azul. Circle, circle, pop a 1-2 stepping in, duck down and back out, repeat.

Tape comes off the gloves, fight paused to fix it. Both combatants look uninspired to resume the action.

Body shots from Martinez, easily bowing under a sweeping hook from the other guy.

He looked pretty good in his last fight, too. Granted, it was just a tune-up against a journeyman/club-fighter type of guy, but he was pretty sharp in that fight.

    Round 8

Martinez pops the jab up and skips around the other guy. A few wide left and right hooks by the other guy. Martinez ducks down through them and tosses a hook overhead into the other guy's jaw. Right hand over the top while up close, and then Martinez dances back out to range. The other guy keeps pressing and manages to get close but it only results in a tie-up. Tired but contiguous arm punch flurries by Martinez in the final stretch until the bell.

    80-72 Martinez

Yes, the same Barros who took Gamboa twelve rounds for the first time, and who briefly held the WBA title, and who had the controversial bout with Caballero (which I personally thought he did indeed edge without benefiting from home cooking, having caught Caballero on a bad night...although Caballero schooled him in the rematch) - against the Salgado by whom Linares was KTFO and who later got stopped by Uchiyama and has since been on a solid winning streak against decent-to-very-good opposition.

    :thumbsup

    Weird scores. :huh

Both the fact it wasn't a shutout, and the fact that mathematically two of the judges must have given a few even rounds to arrive at those totals.

Also, WHO THE HELL WAS THAT GUY IN BLUE?!?!?

:goodNever get the controversy vs Caballero, he had a KD in his favor (IIRC) and plenty of close rounds......I saw Caballero winning it but still, a close fight.....not a robbery !

Yep. I'd like to see the winner face Uchiyama (it would be a rematch in Slagado's case, the only guy to beat him thus far)). Barros is no dummy either. His only losses are to Gamboa and Caballero (and he has a victory over CC). I'm thinking Salgado close on points in a war (maybe even SD/UD)

Uh...there's a co-ed dance troupe in the ring now. A few hot girls...but also some dudes including a chunky light-skinned Peruvian guy with an afro in a headband, wearing a black tank top and sparkly glitter-pink stretch shorts...and he's the one with the microphone...
