Zegarra walks Jimenez across the ring with a strong right jab. The Colombian journeyman waves a right hook back at his fellow southpaw. Jimenez is slowly shuffling until his back hits the ropes, then diving down and pushing at Zegarra's waist. BIG left hook to the body, and down goes Jimenez as Zegarra leaps to a neutral corner with a celebratory wave of his glove. DOUBLE RIGHT JAB, stiffly thrown, knocking Jimenez on the chin and driving him back to the ropes, and a left to the body nearly puts him down again. Straight left lead to the chin by Zegarra at the bell.

Juan's older brother David Zegarra - also an unbeaten prospect from Lima, a couple of divisions up at junior middleweight - is fighting on the next/last undercard bout against Emilio Julio Julio.

 

Round 2

Zegarra presses the attack, jabbing all over Jimenez's face. Left hand. Another knockdown scored by Zegarra, again from a powerful left to the chin followed up quickly by a left uppercut to the body and a slapping right hook in the corner. Jimenez takes his time answering the count and barely makes it. Zegarra presses in with big overhand lefts, going a bit wild as Jimenez backpedals to the ropes. Jimenez pitches himself forward, trying to grab Zegarra. Right jabs by Zegarra pushing Jimenez to the ropes again. Big right hook to the body. Jimenez is making no secret of his grabbing attempts now, frantically tugging on Zegarra's arms. Hard left hand by Zegarra, doubled to the forehead of Jimenez while pushing him into a corner. Jimenez hurls himself in, squatting low, and grabs Zegarra around the waist.

Slanderous comparison.

 

Round 3

Hard body attack by Zegarra. Lunging straight shots thrown over the shoulder with power generated from the hips, leaning in and following through with each one. Now a pair of hard left uppercuts to the chest. Jimenez manages to escape, wriggling out and running to the opposite set of ropes. Younger legs catch up with him, and Zegarra is again smashing the body. Uppercuts by Zegarra as Jimenez presses down on his shoulders and traps with both paws, preventing him from lifting his arms high enough for any other type of punch. Zegarra is content to work him over with those uppercuts, while inching forward to stay close as Jimenez slides his feet back. A few hard low-reaching right hooks to the hip as well.
