I am embarrassed for Jimenez, with this exhibition.

Wouldn't he rather have a third win (or even a fourth draw) than a fiftieth loss? :-( Wouldn't he like to at least try?

It seems like he's most intent on just avoiding an eighth loss by nocaut... tsk tsk.

 

Round 4

Zegarra pushes in and whacks the body, head down. Jimenez pushes his arms toward the floor, and reaches out for a few slaps to the back of his own. Jimenez is warned for rabbit punches, or possibly pushing down on Zegarra's head - he's certainly plenty of both and enough of each to merit a warning (or several warnings and a deduction or disqualification by now). Zegarra presses with the right jab and works the body where he can as Jimenez shuffles back and spoils, arms out to drop a net where needed.

Interesting bit of duality here...

If Zegarra gets the knockout we're all hoping for, it will not only be the 8th Jimenez has suffered but the 8th Zegarra himself has scored as well. (in nine bouts)

Round 5

Zegarra is throwing the right jab and then building off of it, throwing looping lefts and right hooks. Jimenez is backing up with a loose guard assembled at his chest and trying to drop his head back to slip shots with limited success. A few weak jabs by Jimenez, who is at least attempting to throw in spurts here. Uppercut by Jimenez, glancing off Zegarra's bicep as they wrestle against the ropes. Jimenez lifts both arms to acknowledge the crowd after his "best" round by far.

10pm EST, an hour away. It will be tight...

After this, Zegarra's brother and then the main event.

Hopefully both end in early fashion, since this one now looks as though it probably won't. :verysad

 

Round 6

Jimenez is shoving Zegarra across the ring now, planting both gloves on his torso and pushing with all his might. Once Zegarra hits the ropes Jimenez is getting bold and whipping the body. Zegarra answers back with firmer body shots and is able to get free of the ropes easily. Jimenez keeps repeating the tactic. Glove tape of Zegarra is fixed in the corner. Time in. Right jabs by Zegarra as they slowly circle in the middle of the ring. Right hook by Jimenez, reaching from outside. Now Jimenez actually steps forward and pumps a few right jabs, although Zegarra is able to easily duck under them while moving left and score past them with his own jab.
