I was told when training for a fight you should stay away from the juice for best part of a month, what do others think? is there any boxers here who drink regularly when they dont have a fight? Personally im a regular drinker but the last month ive kept it down to once a week and after halloween i wont be drinking for a month, good enough if i may have a fight very end of November?

I don't drink very often, but when I do drink I always notice a difference in terms of my performance for a couple of days. So drinking will definately inhibit your training.

I don't drink alcohol, I drink fruit juice and gatorade during the week for training, I've cut back on caffeine drinks like Mellow Yellow unless it's the weekend/eating out, is it bad to drink caffeine sodas a couple times a week also? I don't do it on training days by the way.

Sodas themselves are bad for you because of all the sugar and other junk in them but caffeine its self is actually not. In fact caffeine has shown to improve endurance when taken just before in events such as running, biking, ect or during exercise if its something like a century bike ride or other multi hour events. I used to take two shots of espresso before my 5k races in HS. I am not sure how it would translate into boxing thou

I have the problem that my gym's training sessions start at 5:30 and I start working out and running 30 minutes after I've ate a dinner meal, I'm trying to look for alternatives to it because those opening parts aren't fun when you feel food bouncing in your stomach.

I've not had a drink for over 3 months, hoping to have my first fight asap, I'm licensed, just waiting to get a match. I've trained regulary for 2 years, It just got to the point where if I was to take it seriously I couldnt justify binge drinking once or twice a week as I were, even though I was reasonably fit. I don't know if I'll drink after my fight but I may well crack, I'm proud not to drink and feel much better and I'm actually enjoying going out sober!

have not drunk for 4 weeks now, of course u get twats always trying to make u drink but ur good mates will understand that u are avoiding alchohol for the greater good and will, in many cases, respect u more for ur self control

im 24 and found that after drinking every weekend for the best part of 8 years i got terrible spots on my face and body - they have massively cleared up since i stopped drinking and i now have clear skin again.

dunno I drank beer like 2 weeks before my fight, only like 1 drink though, as long as you dont hydrate yourself or hang out during training you should be fine...

It takes me about two days to fully recover, so if I can afford two days of no progress at all it's ok. I would not do it in the last few weeks prior to the fight, as I would not be able to afford the two day set back.
