Great Matchup for the fans, and a career defining fight. Frankie Edgar is a Sweet Fighter, a throwback. But, untested at FW and I don't think he is an Elite Fighter. A dominate one like Jose Aldo. Like Overeem, Jose Aldo is coming off a year lay off. I see the fight starting slow, and Frankie Edgar's speed being a problem. Interesting match up, and possibly a bad one for Jose Aldo. Who wins?
Edgar vs Aldo is a superb match up and in my view, is the little man's equivalent of Cain vs JDS for significance. I figure if Frankie could do as well as he did against Benson, then he probably can win this, but Aldo is such a superb fighter, that I have trouble picking against him. Really can't wait for this fight. Fitch vs Maia at 170 is also a great fight, I'm cheering for Maia here, even though I do like Fitch. Now as for Gleison Tibau, why the **** does he get to stay in the UFC after all this time? Boot his boring and useless arse, IMMEDIATELY!!!!!
I'm no fan of his, but he certainly deserves his place. The way I see it, anybody that beats Tibau is a guy worth keeping an eye on. I see him as a very solid gatekeeper. As for the topic at hand, I see Aldo as a stylistic nightmare for Edgar. Superior striking, very solid TDD, and Edgar won't have the speed advantage he is used to. Not saying he can't pull it off, as he has proven me wrong on more than one occasion in the past, but I just don't see it happening for him against Aldo.
Great fight 50-50. I'll go with Edgar by decision but you know Aldos power is dangerous. I'm trusting Edgars movement and fitness to take the sting off the first we rounds. I think Aldo might be struggling at the weight a little. Perhaps not at the pace Florian set but Hominick and Edgar type fights will show it.
He has been in the UFC since Nov 2006. atsch He isn't a genuine title threat and he brings no personal following worth a damn, why is he being kept around? I saw Dana interviewed recently and he was saying how it is incredible how many more talented fighters are now in MMA and if guys don't perform in the UFC they get cut. Fair Enough. If there really is as much talent out there as Dana insists, how about showcasing some of it that most people haven't seen.
Because he is 11-6 in the UFC and has never strung together more than two losses in a row. He is also quite good, and a tough fight for a lot of guys, despite not being a title threat. Most fighters aren't title threats, but that doesn't mean that everyone outside of the top five of each division should be cut. There is no way to justify cutting him.
Just got his feeling Frankie is going to decision Aldo, I'm not sure Aldo can keep up with Edgar's pace.
Aldo is one mean sonuva ***** and is unpredictable which will be a tough test for Edgar and he doesnt have the speed advantage
And what about the supposed talent that can't get into the UFC because he is taking up a place on the roster. It is not just a matter of him being outside the top 5, it is also a matter of how long he has been outside the top 5. What other fighter with similar results(note I also specified no significant fan following), has lasted this long?
I'm far more concerned with guys like Leonard Garcia or Cody Mackenzie taking up spots than a guy like Tibau, who has a solid record and a genuine skill set. I don't think it really matters how long he has been around, as long as he keeps winning. He got cut because he lost three fights in a row, which is standard procedure. Tibau will be cut as soon as he drops three.
