In the co-main event, which concluded about twenty minutes ago, Irish welterweight prospect Dylan Moran knocked out Bosnian gatekeeper Miloš Janjanin after several times dribbling him off the canvas. This content is protected
"Iron" Alem Begić is a crossover from kickboxing, with an 82-20 amateur boxing record and currently a 22-0-1 (19) pro record - although he's untested. John "The Doc" aka "Captain Caveman" René is a U.S. citizen (born in Washington D.C.) but resides in Germany and the southpaw expat has there racked up a 13-2-2 (9) record, all having debuted in his thirties (he's now 38). They'll battle for the vacant IBO light heavyweight international title.
The most familiar name on either man's résumé is probably the Polish super-journeyman Robert Talarek, who stopped René in one round last year.
Begić is pronounced absolutely nothing like I had assumed. Bee-gitch (heavy emphasis on the first syllable, pronounced like the pollinator and not like "bay")
Round 1 Begić is matching the right jab of René with his left glove. They roll their fists over and under each other several times without either of them ever actually firing something meant to land. Just a protracted game of patty-caking for dominance, both increasing the speed of their jab-raking hoping to get a big enough jump on the other to slap his glove down, but neither can. René is caught with a couple of right hands on the stomach as Begić apparently grows bored of this, but the American is able to shimmy outside to barely get touched. Begić now jabbed in the belt line a couple of times, and dashes in with the first meaningful shot, a left hook that just grazes but excites the crowd. Begić follows with a right hand lumbering forward, again just getting a small piece. Begić tries a right hand downstairs and misses as René leaps outside with his arms spread wide. René now tries a southpaw 1-2 downstairs, too far out. 10-9 Begić
Ugh, gonna be a whole new separate video embed for each round? That's a pain in the arsch... This content is protected
Round 2 René holds Begić at bay with some light right cat's-paw jab-feints. Begić is carrying his left hand low and sort of dragging his right glove around in parabolic motions to keep René guessing before stepping in with a high throwaway left jab and plugging the right into the body. Extraordinarily uneventful round. I don't think René threw a single actual punch. 10-9 Begić 20-18 Begić
They keep ending the feed and starting a new one. Round 2's stream is dead, waiting for round 3's now...
