Round 8 René is ducking the line drive right hand lead of Begić and moving a few steps around, dropping anchor to reset with a pawing right jab into the air to form his first line of defense. Begić tries rushing in with some hooks and is parried and turned aside by René, open for a counter from the flank but René doesn't try anything, keeping his distance. Begić ducks his way inside, getting his entire backside underneath a right hook and bopping René with rights, on the body up close and then grazing his chin as they separate. 10-9 Begić 80-72 Begić
Yeah they're getting into it. Must be a lot of drinks going round. Alem needs to use those shift steps to cut Rene off, his movement is otherwise way too predictable.
The guy standing on the balcony looking down, is scary as ****. He gives me some Popcorn or Curtains slasher vibes.
Round 9 René is feeling confident standing in front of Begić, shimmying in place a little, mildly showboating, popping right jabs and then peeling away to his right in an outward spiral. Begić is lunging in with rights, low and high, missing badly at both altitudes. René is leading him on a merry goose chase, never getting near the corners, being cautious to not trap himself, just moving, turning, and floating right jabs into the face, with occasional right hooks behind the left ear of Begić. 10-9 René 89-82 Begić
Whoever wins this (presumably Begić) is going to be pretty close, as the International champion, to a mandatory crack at IBO world light heavyweight champion Dominic Bösel. Much as I've always considered him a dead average, nothing-special-about-him fighter - neither of these guys has anything for Bösel. I guess puncher's chance for Begić.
Round 10 René is starting to style on Begić, walking him onto right up-jabs from a retreating and leftward-bent crab-walking stance, and slapping at him with right hooks when he tries bull-rushing in. Begić stomping after him, looking to land the right hand low to fold him in half, but René had apparently been shoring up energy for some dazzling footwork (relative to Begić's plodding, anyway), playing gingerbread man, but getting just enough licks in to neatly outscore Begić. 10-9 René 98-92 Begić
Jesus he only kinda figured out using the left hook to cut off his rightwards movement was an option at the end there. Begic is way too plodding and predictable. Can switch well but he doesn't use it to his advantage too much and also headhunts excessively.
They embrace at the bell; I guess this was demoted to a 10-rounder? Previously the belt (held by Tony Dodson, Vyacheslav Uzelkov and Erik Skoglund) had been contested over twelve.
Official cards: in German x3, plus the audio cut very low right when the ring announcer started reading. UD for Alem Begić
Actually the more I think about it Bösel vs. Begić does seem kind of interesting. The former when he fought Karo Murat had it all tied up on the judges' cards - but was also stopped late. It'd be a UD for Bösel or knockout for Begić.
