Yeah, this was just being discussed in some thread last week, Finland really emerging (as participants in the Euro & world scene, if not exactly rousing successes) despite having a very low impact on the sport historically. There was a debate as to whether Helenius or Mäki was the p4p GOAT as of now, which is pretty telling about how thin on quality Finns in boxing have been.

I've been (not volitional) unemployed since last autumn, had a really nice job but there was an interpersonal flare-up between me and this newbie they brought in who started messing with the carefully orchestrated house-of-cards (but hitherto very efficient) system I had put in place, and I lost my temper, and with it the job... I since have been attempting to pivot but am finding the career transition incredibly difficult because my chosen field requires a certification - which I obtained, after twice attempting to pass the highly difficult test, after taking a prep course for a year - but also 2+ years experience, per all the postings I've seen, which makes it a catch-22, unless you know somebody, really hard to break in..

my girlfriend is a pain in the ass, getting more annoying to live with every day, but I can't even be too mad at her because I knew there would be a gap in maturity at the start, as she's much younger (plus I believe, for a variety of little reasons but they've been adding up, that she might be a deeply closeted lesbian who simply never got around to examining that path or feared reprisals as her roots are rather intensely Christian), and my ex-wife is going to be moving to a suburb over an hour's drive away (currently she lives with Lil Butt in Jamaica Plain, a twenty-minute subway ride from me in the North End) - not sure if you've ever heard of Westwood, but yeah, not somewhere that's easy to get to if you rely on the MBTA like I do... and she has plucked him from a perfectly good k-8 school that is nicely integrated to put him in the "better" system there, which I suspect was her mother's idea, which I further suspect is just a dog whistle for "richer and whiter" rather than empirically better in terms of the quality of instruction (how ****ing complicated is a 1st grade syllabus, anyway? If the staff is even remotely competent, seems hard to screw up) because she's a sort of quasi-liberal petite bourgeouis who is definitely afraid of brown people, and I don't want Lil Butt to be in that isolated type of environment and end up suffering "Affluenza" ...plus my window to spark up a pro boxing career has all but slammed completely shut, as I've had a flare-up of my bursitis since last year leaving me unable to do any training, and that is assuming that I even had a gym to use, and In Boston there's nowhere that costs less than a hundred bucks a month, which in my economic bracket is a non-starter... also, speaking of $$ I can't go to physical therapy because I literally couldn't afford co-pays right now, which is also why I haven't been to see my therapist since the holidays...

Oh and my elderly cat is dying, very slowly, but very stoically, and we spent a few grand on her last month and there's more diagnostic tests yet to come, that my gf will have to empty the rest of her savings (which her grandmother had meant to go toward college tuition and then presumably school-related expenditures if there was a surplus, as there was)

So basically there's nothing in my life that brings me any joy, except my kid, and my access to him is soon going to be more limited than it already is, unless I can find a job and home in a neighborhood that is far beyond my current (or prospective) means.

 

• could get diagnosed with lung cancer, almost two years after quitting smoking...
• could have a heart attack, runs in my family on the maternal side, grandpa died at 50, which isn't far off for me...and my primary vice is salt...
• could get hit by a bus...

never say never
