"I think when you're an athlete, especially in this game, if you're afforded that ability to go ahead and move up a little bit and build your body and make it more durable and stronger and more resistant; you know, this is a combative sport and your body is getting punched and hit, so trying to fight at your natural weight and then, on top of that, not gain any muscle or build your body to make it more durable, to me, that doesn't make any sense. It's safer for Manny to fight at 147 pounds. Even though he's not fighting at 147 and he's fighting at 145 or 146, his body is a lot denser; it's more athletic. It's built different and it's been prepared and trained better, so I wouldn't want to get him to 145 and then try to get him all the way down to 140. What would be the point of that? Why not fight at where you're strongest," stated Alex Ariza, strength and conditioning coach of Manny Pacquiao, as he gave us an update on how training camp has been going for the upcoming May 7th showdown with "Sugar" Shane Mosley. Check out what Ariza had to say about how Pacquiao's been doing in sparring, how he's looking physically, and much more.

the money fight is at 147. Pac's buddy khan will take care of 140. Roach has the king of 140-147 in his camp:deal

Yep and I think Airza said before that Manny can easily make 140, but I guess here he's just saying he's better at 147 which doesn't make any sense to me.

Pacquiao probably walks around 150 but not over and with a few extra pounds of fat. He can easily fight at 140

So, at 147 Manny has to lose no weight and at 140 he would have to lose a little. Either way he is not weight drained and fighting at or near his optimal weight.

I have a feeling if the show was about a fight at 140, the trainer would have said that is his best weight.

There's nothing left @147 except Berto (overpaid, overhyped, refused to fight mandatory)... Floyd is irrelevant right now, too many legal problems outside the ring, I wouldnt blame Floyd if his mind is not focus in boxing.

140 is hot division right now, we got KHAN, BRADLEY, JUDAH, MAIDANA, MARQUEZ, ALEXANDER.

Pac is a cash cow right now, any fight with these guys would surely bring more than
    1 MIL PPV.

Pac can still demand a 22.5 million payday against any of those guys.

I'm willing to bet that if Sergio had a bigger name and had struggled against Dzinziruk, Team Pac would have no problem making Pac-Sergio happen at 154.

But fine. Pac can choose to stay at 147. After he sends Mosley into retirement, I expect Pac to fight Berto, Williams, Canelo, and Bradley.

Obviously if Floyd miraculously works out a deal with Pac then that's the fight that is 1st priority. Berto has to beat Ortiz or keep winning to get a shot. Williams has been KO'd and would be drained if he comes back down to 147 which he will do so for the money, therefore Team Pac shouldn't have a problem facing him. He needs a win or two before getting a chance though. Canelo and Bradley are in different divisions but I don't think they'll have a problem making concessions for Pac.

Ariza says in this same interview that to fight at WW Manny has to "constantly be eating all the time, making himself miserable." Is it the opinion of this strength and conditioning expert that gorging oneself to the point of misery is a boon to one's athletic ability?
