Love to know whats gone off/wrong with Alex, he seemed to tick all the boxes and was doing all the right things well, maybe he believed he truly was "amazing" and didnt feel he had to put the work in.
im a big alex arthur fan but when you start getting beat of the likes of nigel wright no disrespect its time to look at the big picture decent career though
Yup, I predicted this one right too. I predicted that Alex could be a force at his new weight, but hes so ****in unpredictable that hed probably find a way to lose to Wright & make me look like a fanny. Thanks Alex:good PS. According to a fight report I saw alex sounded like he was doing well & romped the last round, but Wright got the decision in his hometown... Dont know the truth in it, but hey. Looks like its over for Alex Arthur. British, european & world champion. Not a bad career really when you look back on it in the cold light of day, & that was him underachieving badly. Thanks for the memories Alex, cos love him or hate him, it was fun having him around.
I disagree, to call him a 'world champion' just shows how much he overachieved given his limited level of talent.
Totally agree TFFP, SKY touted him as 'the next big thing' for about 5 years, but i was never convinced .. Its easy after the event, but i honestly didnt see anything to him, i thought he was ordinary, even more ordinary than i thought Scott Harrison and Enzo McCaranelli were .. Theres a real problem in this country of trying to build fighters into something that they can never acheive, anybody with an ounce of boxing knowledge should be able to see through these kinds of limited fighters, which is why i didnt buy the Khan fight tonight .. Until he goes in with a guy with some pop, until he goes in with a 'proper' fighter with some smarts, im not interested .. Its a typical 'British Build' process, clever match making on one level but a total waste of money. If your going to 'build' a fighter at least do it on normal SKY or terrestrial, dont rip off the punters and put a fight like this on PPV, because it convinces nobody at all .... I laugh at people who think the latest fighters could even compete with the fighters pre 80's, its absolutely ridiculous .. Boxing today is an endless journey of 'Building' fighters 'reputations, its all about showbiz, fake and bull**** .... Pre 80's Boxing was the most popular sport in the world because it was the real deal, great fights in every division without all the endless hype and deceiving of the watching public .... Khan wont fight a 'live' contender for at least 2 years, Calzaghe waited until Hopkins and Jones got old, Hatton made his name on the bones of Tzsyu, Naz got schooled by the only decent fighter he ever faced, Lennox waited until Holyfield and Tyson had slowed, Eubank never faced any decent Americans in an era were there were plenty of major fights .. When are the British public going to wake up and demand better boxing, when are the British public going to stop eating this **** from Warren and Roach .. I hear Roach always talking about 'hes the perfect opponent for my fighter', since when should a trainer have a say in the opponent, he should train and governing bodies should force champions to fight number 1 contenders .. Boxing is a con, no wonder people have no faith in the sport .....
^^ To be fair Khan's was a mandatory challenger, he had to fight him or lose the belt. Can't really criticize him for that. It's what he does from now that will be judged.
ok alex maybe stepped up a bit too far 2 weights in 1 go really dont count the last blow out goood british european fighter there are fighters who achieved a lot less who are acclaimed a lot more lets hope the next generation of boxers can go past european level tbh british boxing frank warren stable especially is in a very good state
i think it would be unfair to say aaa was not a talented boxer as you dont win the titles he has won unless you have some talent . if you look at all the all the contest alex was in he was the best in briton no doubt bearing inmind boxers like ricky burns willie limond are still contenders for titles so he was a good pro i will say he will box again as his pride and self believe will feel he can still win light weight titles maybe in truth alex should have stayed with one trainner but we will never know now i would say he was good for boxing in scotland as sky where touting him as the next big thing but this gave tv exposure to boxers that where coming threw like kenny anderson gary young ricky burns willie limond kevin mcintyre the list is endless so lets not knock him when he down all the best for the future alex
Never liked him as he was always talking ****. Look at the Cookie fight where he was taken to school yet he had the nerve to question the judges. Then it was his weight and now again he will make up rubbish about the scorecard.
Really shocked, what a waste. There goes Scottish boxing's only chance of a world champion, the Scottish scene is pretty bleek at the moment, think Simpson is probably no1 in Scotland.
hey dunky ,i am just in.I hate to say but alex didnae look intrested in the fight tbh .he had some oppertunities to try and gain momentium but he didnt seem to capatilise on it.Fair play to the ****** hanger he doen well and took the oppertunities that arthur didnt . its ashame that arthur has ended up like this ,almost like enzo a bit:tired
Arthur didnt get robbed in this fight, just got back from Newcastle after the event. It was a tight fight but Arthur didnt seem to throw many punches and his movement wasnt up to much either. I dont think he is shot, he just doesnt seem to have the pashion for it any more to me.
Knew he'd struggle with Wright, stylistic nightmare for a man moving up in weight. Arthurs done a lot to be proud of, had a good career and some brilliant results.
