As a Scot ( and an Arthur Fan ) I'd love to see him fight Mitchell , altough I fear Mitchell beats him it would be a crackin dust up !
this is nonsense.. another belt gone away. Look at the WBO champs(not everyone but mostly), erdei, dzinziruk, darius michealkswi wahtever, calzaghe before unifying, now i think arthur would be one of them. But point is this interim champs doesn't deserve to become champs, look at david diaz for example. Arthur should fight for its right to become champion. JMM is rank no.1 by the WBO, while martinez is rank at no.2. Mitchell at no.3 I doubt would wan't to fight arthur so he should try to battle it out with the other 2 contenders.
either mitchell or roman martinez..that would be good and if he beats either of them. I would have no problem with him being champ
Yeah Martinez would be a good shout too. :good I have to say some folks are really appalled at Alex being given the belt but he was the interim champ. Isnt this exactly how Sam Peter got his belt ? Arthur is the champ now but I whole heartedly agree that his next fight MUST be someone worthwhile. If it isnt then he's fair game !
It would be amusing if the WBO installed JMM as his mandatory contender and Juan wanted the fight - Sports Network backed into a corner. No doubt Frank would come up with some lame ass excuse and AAA would be challenging for the WBU strap without delay, before moving back to the WBO when JMM moves up to 135!
On one hand, great for Arthur, and nice to finally get something sorted out after this prolonged delay from Guzman. On the other hand, well, see the post above. Whenever someone becomes a champion this way, unfairly or not some people will think of them as undeserving. Which in my eyes is pretty harsh on Arthur.
Read in between the lines. Guzman never wanted to fight Arthur in the first place. It was a mandatory he did not want due to money and who is Arthur. He lost to a Michael Gomez who by the way is not latino, but European. Guzman wants Pacman, Marquez, etc. If he would have fought and beaten Arthur, would he had mad some noise, no. Even though you have Valero, but he has not rised to the top as of yet so Guzman has to follow all he elite fighters to 135 and above. As far as your question, unless team Guzman owns up to the truth, we won't know. Many fighters hide the real reasons not to take or follow through with a fight. Some don't give a **** and will tell you right up front like Joe C. He told Froch that he will fight him for mainly for the money or else pretty much take a walk. Money, weight problems, venues, gloves, and last second "oh, we forgot to get Guzman his visa guys for his title defense". He is not the first or last to use this excuse. Again, you won't read about it due to fans calling you a coward and more importantly breaking the contract by not fighting. Two people that are estatic are Warren and Arthur for Guzman to move-up.
I am reading between the lines. Guzman says that his visa was fine and he would have been in the country on fight night. His camp say that the visa issue would merely have forced him to catch a later plane on the day that he was expecting to travel. Either way, a visa problem would have been a reason to put the fight back a week or two, yet Frank Warren was talking about rescheduling to July. On the same day that the fight was postponed, several news sources ran stories saying Arthur was injured. Setanta, the broadcasters in the UK had already been advised that the fight would be postponed, before any visa stories came out. They ran the story of Arthur's injury on their website, then later pulled it and replaced it with the visa story. There have been persistant rumours that Arthur cannot make the weight. This is my point, we don't know the truth at all. Did Guzman scupper the fight (but if he was going to do that, why sign at all in the first place). Or did Warren, knowing that his own fighter couldn't make the fight decide to mess Guzman around to the point where the fight was no longer worthwhile for him, knowing that Guzman's next move would be to vacate and move up?
It's always been that way in America. At the end of the day there are always going to be factions, promoters, boxers, with disporoportionate influence.
My bad, I forgot that he surprisingly got his visa in check and wanted the fight to happen prior to the May 3rd weekend. I was one of many who said okay, then if he has his visa, let's stay with the same date. Maybe you are right with the Warren conspiracy. Remember it was a forced mandatory or be stripped. Maybe Guzman was okay with it in the beginning and later with everything that was transpiring, he felt he needed to go up with the big dogs. We will never know the whole truth, but each fighter got what they wanted. Arthur is finally a champ which I feel he should have fought the next contender in line for it and Guzman is going to go after some lucrative fights at 135 and up.
Wasn't David Diaz force to fight someone instead of recieving the WBC belt even though he was interim? All this bull**** interim belts and worse super champs is completely garbage just to pad more money for santioning fees. The only good thing about it is that a gives a fighter a better chance of obtaining a belt easier than back in the day. Back in the day it was if you acquire the USBA or NABF belts, then your a top contender. Those belts are hardly mentioned. Politics and big money is what is really hurting boxing. The top twenty fighters should be cashing in to feed there families and it is not happening. We are making these top superstars rich. Notice how I did not mention any superstar names. "You hate so an so". Fighting for most of these fighters is there only income. Unless you are a phenom or superstar, sponsors won't take care of you. Like Bo James, who was a full-time firefighter fought Hopkins back in the day. He would have been so much better if he would have been a full-time fighter.
