    Who the hell rates him?

He's a fringe contender, I don't see anybody claiming otherwise. Even most of the Scots are realistic.

Can't agree with that. Mitchell's defence is terrible and I'm sure AAA could take advantage of that.

Lets get this straight, myself and even Dunky, realise he is not the an elite A fighter. OK.

This is a stupid ass thread because he is not overrated at all, he is rated at the level he has shown currently. As it stands for me he is fringe world class, especially in the division he finds himself now, but against an elite fighter with a ferocious home crowd against him he could pull out a win. I truly believed he had a shot at Guzman, I really did.

The thread starter, newbie Flint or whatever his name is, must understand nobody overrates him, if anything they underrate him by saying he is mid euro level at best. He will prove you wrong, and I will be there to see it.

Not one person claims he is true world class, so too **** with this thread of hate for Arthur you ****ing child.

why be such a ***** about it? insulting me.

I thought Arthur was overrated - mainly by himself not by anyone on ESB

I dont think he is even paper champion level - i think this is a British / European level fighter I always heard being talked about in world title plans.

    What about Arthurs defence

Watch his fight with Michael Gomez - very very leaky defence and average chin

Mitchell can be caught but he sucked all them shots up from Johannseberg and still dished out a stoppage

Mitchell to stop Arthur - thats just my opinon

I dont give a **** who agrees or disagrees with me

I dont agrre really arthur has imporved alot since the gomez fight so using that as the main basis for judgement is flawed. I didn't think he would beat guzman, but i don't think he would just get bowled over either. I think he is slighly above euro level but if he faced anyone truely world class i think he would lose but still give them a decent scrap.

Is he overrating himself? Of course. ALL boxers, ESPECIALLY at the top level, overrate themselves; in many cases, they do so to the point of being almost clinically insane. You can't make it to the top in boxing unless you have a ludicriously over-inflated opinion of your talents, because that's the only way to acquire the self-belief and enthusiasm to make it that far.

Is he overrated by anyone else? Well, the media aside, most people seem to understand that he's a European level boxer who has won an alphabet title because of the cowardice/incompetance/bad luck of a much more established boxer. Clearly he has potential but it goes without saying that neither he nor any other British boxer, except to some extent Calzaghe, deserves to be compared with Ken Buchanan.

maybe so - but you need the substance - it dont matter how big headed or big mouthed you are - if you aint got the ability to back it up - you are going to get exposed.

And I disagree that all boxers overrate themselves and you cant make it to the top without being a big headed wanker. Yes it is common to see big headed boxers but it is not a absolute rule.

Yes, to an extent. I never really liked him earlier in his career, but have grown fond of him in the past three years.

    ps everyone.

You have to remember guys, this Flint guy is also a guy who thinks Colin Jones was world class. His opinion does not mean much to me as i'm sure mines does not mean much to him.

I cant believe you have tried to discredit Colin Jones:fire

Colin fought in a era where the best fought the best

He knocked out Kirkland Lang twice

He was mandatory challenger for Sugar Ray Leonard

He fought the two best Welterweights in the world

He held his own with Don Curry and was stopped on a cut

He would easily win a World Title in todays sport

He was world class but just missed out on a world title out in the heat of Las Vegas against a American with American judges.

Today Alex Arthur could claim a WBO (paper title) and defend it against some bums in Edinghburgh where its nice and safe
