G'day Melbboy. I had a post in another thread about it: Unfortunately the Yank can't go through with the fight. Both him and his manager agreed, but his promoter turned it down. The contract between the fighter and promoter expires this year, so maybe it's something that can be done down the line. What is signed up is Leapai v former WBC title challenger Okello Peter 20-5 (18KO). Should be bombs away while it lasts. Fight is for the interim WBO Oriental and Pan African titles. As mentioned, it's on the Chris John v Daud Yordan undercard. Not sure if it's going to be on PPV or not. Noel Thornberry is currently out of the country so I'll follow it up with him when he's back. Or maybe one of the Perth boys can ask Craig Christian.
I wouldn't have thought so either. More likely that Sky Channel would have it on. I think it'll be a ripper while it lasts. I don't see it going past 5 one way or another. I'd like to catch John and Yordan too. Interesting clash of styles.
Yeah I second this. I am really curious as to who the fighter was. Okhello is a solid opponent but it would be cool to see him against a current top heavy.
Congrats on matching the Leapai stoush Ippy. Does look like bombs away! I agree with you re; John vs. Yordan, I think it could be a great fight.
Lads the Yank has requested that it be kept quiet until his contract with his promoter runs out. He is keen to come and fight, so hopefully it's something that can be done soon. As I mentioned both him and his manager had agreed to everything. His promoter turned it down, unless he got 75% of the purse, which is criminal. Obviously looking to cash out. Sorry to play games, it is not my style, but everything was looking signed and sealed until the last minute. I think Okello (his name is actually spelt incorrectly on boxrec - bizarre) is a more than adequate opponent. I don't see it going past 5 or so, either way.
tough fight for alex... okhello is a tough fighter with a big punch and has beaten up many of the aussie boys, but should be a good fight and a very even fight.... whatever you say about alex his certainly likes challenging himself
would of been great to of been in aussie and foxsports, surprise he's not on the mundine card he's been on all other cards as main bout excluding SBW
A lot of good fights, at the moment, for Leapai. I like his style. But wat is he doing? Will he fighting for a world title, in the future, or will he ever be a local hero?
If he keeps winning 6 fights a year against top 25 to 100 ranked fighters he will soon get an eliminator type fight against a top 25 fighter...if he wins that well hes a chance at a title shot some time next 18 months :good Lets face facts Noel Thornberry has got 5 or 6 of his fighters World title shots over the years so he's in good hands :deal
