Alex Leapai vs Owen Beck

Yeah Stiffy, just commented on him in the King thread - impressive!

Nice to see a ring comeback for the mullet haircut too.

 

beck was landing more punches but leapai's punches were doing more damage.

there was 10 seconds left in the round ffs. the ref knew and should have let him come out for the next round and see how he was. he looked like he was clearly going to stay on his feet till the bell.

but the ref thought he was protecting beck by stopping it, so i guess he did to a point.


the main thing is both guys earnt their money and made it entertaining for the crowd.

 

No doubt the fight would of been tough to score not only was there some close rds but also the fact that Alex was scoring with the big punches however Beck was scoring at will with his short crisp punchers on the inside sometimes landing 5-6 shots to Alex's 1 bomb.

 

That ref either made a poor judgement or had been told in no uncertain manner to favour the local fighter.

Neutral officials eliminate these issues of incompetent local offciating.

 

The way i see it, Beck was gassed. He wasn't going to get a one punch KO. He just didn't have it in him. He was starting to take punishment and the Ref showed some Mercy for him.

Maybe the stoppage was 1-2 punchs early but if he had of been KOd badly and injured the Ref would look really average.

I think Refing is a very hard job. They get critisised when they stop a fight early, and cop it when they let a guy get KOd. I think sometimes the fighters welfare needs to be considered, as they after all have wifes and family's just like the rest of us.
Personally id rather see a fight stopped early than watch someone get beaten up badly and stretchered from the ring.

 

i agree on that fact alone id rather see a fighter live to fight another day then to see them leave in a stretcher, and stopping a fight early is better for that fact, beck was wobbly and even after when he went to the corner he was still abit shaky! ****d if id want to be a ref

and on another note, yeah alex takes alot of punches but hes the first fighter i want to watch fight out of the aus heavyweights for the simple fact as kegsy said hell go down swinging and gives his all and thats all you can ask from a fighter!

I was rather close to the action and it's a fine line between stopping the fight and letting it go further.

End of the day Alex went better than expected and looks to be progressing well against a guy who is a seasoned fighter.

Alex still has some things to work on but he is all power and heart....I thought he showed better stamina and waited for the right time to throw them....also threw some nice jabs :bbb

Thats 2 big wins for Alex....cant wait for the next fight :good

 

The number of times there were openings for uppercuts presented to Alex were too numerous to count, and I can't remember him throwing too many at all. One area he could improve on in my humble opinion.

Overall though, another win, and another step forward.

 

I'll say this... Initially I thought it was a premature stoppage, but after the fight Owen looked a mess. His balance was gone to the point he caught a lift instead of the stairs. His eyes were completely bloodshot. His trainer had no complaints about the stoppage afterwards.

I missed that.

Ippy lost his balance after having to whiff becks trainers plumbers crack for 1 minute between rounds.

It made nathan hindmarsh look like a first year apprentice.

 

My old man goes to me "he must be a steel fixer" when they showed that footage of the trainers crack hanging out.
