Oh yeah cos Harrison got the L. Great point homey, I forgot the modern day boxing fan sees an L on the record as defining
Really strange thing for a manager to say. I know they sometimes go overboard with the praise for their fighters but it's easy to understand why and because of the financial implications, we accept their hyperbole. This, however, is really weird. Why would a manager downplay talk that his fighter is the best ever from that nation? Even if it is nonsense, which it clearly is, you still don't expect a manager to say it. Not only is it pointless, it could hurt his fighters confidence anyway, which you don't want going into a big fight.
Actually because I thought it showed a lot of Scotty's weaknesses and was great win for Medina who is one of my favourite fighters. Scot achieved a lot in his career but sadly fell short of his true potential, he was a beast at his weight and had out of the ring issues not afflicted him who knows how far he might have went.
Bemusing situation. I think MIK is right he hasn't done Ricky any favor's in past. I think Billy would of been better off saying ''If Ricky beats Layrea then Unify's with Fana and collects Ring title with it he will become Scotland's most successful champion on world scene''. That would of been better because there's no doubting in my mind he's nowhere near the level of other past champions at this point. I'm like Flea when it comes to titles. World Championship Belts and Status are all these guys ever trained for and they deserve it but the opponents you fight make your legacy not the titles. Admittedly title's do make up part of your legacy. Modern day success just doesn't match up to the likes of yesteryear. Ricky's a fine fighter and will do himself proud and hopefully saturday will be last of the soft touches on route to career defining battles. As for Morrison if you got issue with Billy's comments have a word with him and not spout to press. Fighters need a settled camp. Boxing may not be a team game but you need a team to do the job right for you. Don't need this shite.....awful...really.
i remeber that chat dunku ,and im not saying you were wrong but up here he must be doing something right if he has a wold champion and decent fighters like simpson ,but this time hes just not doen the right thing :good
I think it's hard to compare fighters from different eras as well man especially because it was harder in the old days ( 15 rounders ) but everybody's entitled to opinion man .Also look at Floyd Mayweather for example he always says he's the best fighter ever (Archie Moores boxed 1474 rds Mayweather's boxed 299 ) .Some ar arguable .Buchanan win the WBA belt and lost it to Duran that was the only title but Duran is an atg .If Burns was to win a ringmag belt maybe you don't know how people would see it ( organizations etc ) .Another quote from Mayweather against Mosley he says belts don't do nothing but collect dust he didn't want the WBA WW title .
I actually agree with him. Don't get why people are going mental. My eyes nearly popped out of their sockets when I watched that video of Nelson going on about how he only has to beat Fana to top Buchanan and Benny Lynch. It was a ****ing ridiculous, highly embarrassing comment to come out with. Beating a guy that was completely overrated by reactionary idiots on here and some random African beltholder that is 37 years old warrants that acclaim?
No doubting it was embarrassing comment. Just think it's better to say it to Billy or leave it till after. Must admit i was same as you...couldn't believe he said it myself.
I know but...people are reacting like little girls. 'It might hurt Burns confidence'. WTF? Burns confidence was built up when he won a world title, and every day in sparring. It's not made or broken by a few (frankly logical) comments from his manager. That he probably actually agrees with himself, as Ricky Burns seems an intelligent man.
Yeah i agree with you. Ricky's a humble lad i can imagine his face when told was something like this . You gotta be real it's a mans game and you gotta be on Audley's train of thought to believe and gain confidence from such a comment. It rocks the boat but really and truly as you say...Ricky doesn't need no confidence and i doubt it was intended to. Billy must genuinely believes his comment....................
I think the back fire's alot worse than the comment .F--k sake man Billy posts on here ( domestic trainer of the year ) . It's probably only trying to build a bit confidence in his fighter .No need for bulls--t talk to the media that's low .
