Cooney probably, because he started aggressive whereas Stewart was a bit slow out of the blocks.

Having said that Stewart had heart and definitely had the power and ability to tear Conney's head off. The Stewart who fought Foreman might be too much for Cooney.

I would have to pick Gerry Cooney. I always had high hopes for Alex Stewart when he was a young prospect undefeated. In fact, he was the only fighter that I ever cheared for to beat Evander Holyfield. As the fight went on though, I saw that Stewart had no defense, no ability to use survival tactics when he was in trouble, and above all else, he blead too easily. His best career effort, was going the distance in a bloody match with George Foreman. The problem is, George's ability to finish guys, was diminishing by that point. Cooney had a jab coupled with power, aggressiveness, and a deadly left hook that would have been treacherous for Stewart. Alex might have been a better fighter if he was better managed, but whatever potential he had never came through. He was repeating amateurish mistakes throughout his whole career.

Cooney by stoppage in rounds 3-5.
