I'm sure most people in here are entirely sick with the Gamoa threads, I'm no exception.

Just been researching what happened to fights who caught my eye at the last set of olympics, awaiting to see what this olympic games brings us and noticed the guy who gave Solis quite a run for his money in the final has turned pro and seems to be on the starting point of a good career

Alexander Alexeev - boxing at CW and is at the moment 14-0 (13ko)

He has just stepped into the Top 15 across all sanctioning bodies and possesses two impressive wins for a prospect.

One against ex title challenger Darrin Humphrey and the other vs Talmadge Griffis, a guy who extended Tua to 10 rounds and Chazz Witherspoon to 9, Alexeev was able to make quit in 3.

He's currently the WBO Inter Continental belt holder, which means he can't be too far away from a shot at the WBO Cruiserweight title (once Haye vacates)

Anyone know much about him? Any of our German or Russian friends be able to give us a heads-up?

Actually, Alexeev posseses zero impressive wins (yes, even for a prospect), in my opinion.

However, having watched him fight, he is clearly an excellent, patient fighter, and a murderous puncher, with a fine amateur background.

Probably the best prospect at Cruiserweight right now...only matched--in my mind--by Johnathan Banks, who has already stepped up once and is a bit more seasoned at 19-0.

Excellent prospect. Amatuer backround similar to Povetkin (I could be wrong, but I believe Alexeev was a silver medalist). He packs one helluva punch and it appears that he can box too. I have only seen two of his fights though; and they were blowouts to tomatoe cans, so hopefully we will see more of him soon

Anyone know what his chin is like? Has he been rocked that anyone knows of?

For a 14-0, fighting a guy who received a title shot isn't too bad in my book.

He's doing the right things to build a career, he's only taken two years to get those 14 wins and for a guy stepping into the Top 15, Humphrey was a good test.

I'm impressed with how he beat Griffis, solely because he beat him far quicker than most HW's that had faced him were able to do.

Lost to Solis in the finals of 2004 Olympics.

Was a very close match though, I remember seeing it at the time and thinking both guys were talented.

To be fair, those heavies beat Griffis years before Alexeev did. Humphrey, in turn, was a gatekeeper at 175 lbs, being shutout by the small Diaconu (who is no Cassius Clay) en route to a TKO11 loss.

Of course, the manner in which he dispatched these guys, and all his opponents--has been first class, but it was expected all the way through.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not raining on the Alexeev parade--his big wins will come, sooner than most think, imo.

Alexander was an exceptionaly good amatuer fighter, and has the punching power at professional! He should be a World Champion level fighter certainly.

Everyone that has seen Alexeev fight has been very impressed . Below is a thread from the Euro forum.

Alexeev is the best CW prospect out there right now and should be a world champion one day. He's got brutal power in his hands, the defense is OK, hopefully the stamina as well. I don't remember him having any chin problems, but that might be a question for the future.

For those who're not really impressed: Alexeev is a typical Soviet school fighter, not really virtuoso by any means, not your favorite all-out fan-friendly fighter, but ultimately effective in his game and very, very strong. The biggest problem might be with the promotional company he's with: Spotlight/Universum has loads of talents (Golovkin, Balzsay), but not being a german or somebody with a serious fan base in Germany means you're not getting TV dates, you're being moved up slowly in the rankings and even if you'll win a world title at some point, you'll be a protected fighter. Alexeev and Golovkin both have talent to take on the world, however if they don't leave Universum in a short time, that can ruin their careers. They don't have to go too far. Arena Box-Promotion is based in Hamburg as well...

That's kind of what I look at him as. He's a harder hitting Povetkin as a prospect.

Don't forget Aaron Williams, who may be every bit as good as Banks. He's fighting on FNF this week.
