Alexander and Maidana agree to bout for Jan or Feb (Welterweight)

Maidana has been achieving success against far more skilled opponents because of non-conventional instincts and skills that he's developed as a crude slugger. Having a skill and being effective is not necessarily preceded by having correct technical ability.

Alexander can sit down on his punches well, but Maidana is very durable. Khan repeatedly tagged him with hard, fast shots, and I think he's more explosive as a puncher, more voluminous, more accurate, and much faster than Alexander. Morales was largely successful because of his accuracy and skill in walking Maidana into shots or counter-punching him. Alexander is not that refined by a long shot. He throws predictable, slapping combinations at range, often easily rendered ineffective by a high guard and the subtlest of head movement, which Kotelnik demonstrated and Maidana is capable of as well.

What Maidana has always had on his side was a raw but effective sense of timing. Alexander's biggest flaw plays into Maidana's greatest strenght; Alexander's uncreative rhythm and predictable timing of his punches is perfect material for a slugger like Maidana to exploit. One overhand right over a lazy left being brought back after a low left hook, and Devon's in trouble. Alexander also lacks the ability to throw at shoulder-level (protecting his chin by his shoulder as he throws-an often underrated fundamental) and doesn't always bring his hands back to his face. He's less disciplined than Khan in this regard, and we all saw what happened to him.

As far as their power goes, while they have no common opponents to my knowledge, Maidana has hurt fighters with single blows more often than Matthyse has. Lucas is great at knocking fighters down and hurting them with accurate straight punches, but Maidana has knocked fighters out with single blows from all angles; recall the way he knocked out underrated Victor Cayo with just a few inches of space between his arm and Cayo's torso in the clinch, before he dropped him for the count with an uppercut to the solar plexus.

His power is only accentuated by his unconventional angles, greater volume & aggression, close-range style, and recently better developed boxing skills.

 

The Glass balls of Alexander will shatter again.

Alexander is a BUM. Maidan should fight Berto, JMM, Ortiz, Bradley.

 

Hope this fight gets paired with Berto-Ortiz II.
